Hi folks.
My wife and I are planning to visit Syros in July.
We intend to get to Syros 9th or 10th of July and spend five or six days
there.
What's the accommodation situation like?
Is it worthwhile trying to book in advance, or should we just rock up
and see what we find?
Anyone got any recommendations for hotel and/or apartment/domatia?
regards,

Unless you're looking for something special, just turn up. As on most Greek
islands, owners meet the ferries with offers for rooms. If you miss these for
some reason any travel agent around the harbour will find you somewhere to
stay. I've been to Syros twice and had no trouble finding a place. I wouldn't
think of booking in advance.

Cheers, and thanks.
I sort of thought that Syros was a less touristy type of place and might
not have the usual mob of folk at the ferry dock.

Hi,
Mike is right - as you always are:-))) As on all the Cyclad Islands
you should indeed be fine unless you have specific wishes and then
again there might be still people at the harbour renting what you
like; We've been to Cyclads end of May and in October and alawys had
immediate support finding a room for several days and mostof the time
rather cheap ( average of 30 EUR per night). The smaller ones are
best: a special time we had on Antiparos and Folegandros.

Well it's not a mob like on Paros or Naxos, but there'll normally be a few.

Cheers and thanks again.
BTW have you been to Kythera?
We are a;so planning to duck across there some time this trip, although,
being Ozzies, we feel that this is a local visit to us.

Yes I have. We went in May 2006. That *is* a bit different - very nice (nicer
than Syros, I'd say) but you definitely need a car there.

Aye. Plan is to get one of the landing craft type ferries from Neapoli,
with the rented car.
Syros isn't a choice, we have two weddings to go to there, but we want
to see Kythera because we know quite a few folk here in Sydney who are
either from, or their background is from, the island.

We've generally just turned up, and head for the Dream Rooms. Turn
right off the boat, left into the market street, across the 'main'
road and first left. Cheap, clean and friendly. But if you do want to
book it is worth looking at the Ethrion.
www.ethrion.gr
Be sure to eat in O Lillis in Ano Syros.
Have a good trip
