Advertising on this site?

I've been away for some time from rec.travel.africa and am a little
surprised
to see commercialization to the extent it is showing up.
The 64 unread messages that were here when I came on today included one
for something called Common Dotted Safaris - no web site. Google it and
the only 'hit' is their posting on this forum
And the guy linking you to the Koran.. and the guy selling trips to
Ethiopia..
And the guy with the travel video site - hoping to build traffic and get
advertisers..
And the guy posting more than 40 links to Viet Nam travel sites..
And yet a different guy selling trips to Viet Nam..
And the guy selling trips to India..
And the guy selling cigars and cheap cigarettes.. and a book on how to
make money on the internet..
And another from apparently the same guy, selling a different way to
make money on the internet..
And the guy trying to make money on the internet by creating a travel
writing site..
(This one, I really understand - I had been thinking of the same gimmick
myself)

I won't be back.
Let me suggest an option for those of you really interested in sharing
your questions and answers
about Africa - TripAdvisor.com. I have been enjoying that for a few
months...
If you know things about Africa, you can be quite helpful.
If you have things you want to know, there are plenty of 'Advisors' to
help you.
And - NO SPAM.

I agree. Probably it is more difficult to filter the system for spam and
non-related subjects. On websites like Tripadvisor this is much easier.

Too bad, you've always been a good contributor to this NG. However, I
believe that the era of NG is dying slowly
