Hi
I am "passing through" Argentina next week on my way to Antarctica.
My itinerary gives my at least a full day in Buenos Aries and another
day and a half in Ushuaia.
When shopping in Argentina, is it expected that you try and haggle the
price down or do you usually just pay what is on the price ticket?
Regards

Depends on where you go, what you're buying, etc. If you go into a
shop downtown and try to bargain, you're most likely going to be out
of luck. It would kind of be like going into WalMart and trying to
haggle. If you hit up a craft fair or something like that, though,
you'll have more leway.
Basically, the less "formal" the business appears to be, the better
your chances of talking down prices. But, it's certainly not a way of
life like it is in some other places in Latin America. >> Stay informed about: Argentina shopping. haggle or not?? |

hay descuento(s) ....... means there is / there are discount(s)
Our experience is that if you show a GENUINE interest in an article and present a non-avaricious
attitude, you will often be offered
a discounted price or, in some instances (particularly in artisan shops) some small usually useful
token will be gifted to you when
you purchase something else. It has happened to us on a number of occasions.
