True - but I hope the OP isn't thinking that an account in a US Citibank
account will be the same as having one in Australia.

A bank worth considering, and I don't know how big they are in the US
nor how low they can get the barriers between countries, is HSBC - it
prides itself on having the best international banking system, but I
have never had enough money to put it to the test.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I did see them for a minute or so here in the CBD in Sydney, but not
any longer.

You did not say why you need banks with offices in each country. I
know that Chase Manhatten opened in Australia, and found that they
were not able to operate as a 'branch' of the USA, as Australian
banking regulations are totally different to USA.

That said, every bank here in Australia will write drafts that can be
deposited in USA banks, I am sure most large USA banks can do the same
for Australian funds.

In Sydney there is the Bank of China (funnily enough in Chinatown),
and Arab Bank in Bankstown. As posted elsewhere you're best off with
HSBC - they're very flexible and geared towards travellers and
ex-pats.
