Authorities brace for more wild weather

The wild weather lashing NSW is expected to continue overnight.

IMHO, IRC. Not that Australia is a hazardous travel or
immigration destination, IMHO probably one of the safest
countries in the world. My wife and I wouldn't be here
otherwise, would we?

Whether readers like it or not, or will admit it or not, the
climate of the world seems to be changing.

This is the prevailing scientific view, anyway. From a
psychological point of view, I can see why some readers might be
in a state of "denial". It is, after all, a very common "coping"
mechanism in psychology.

Not that I would claim to completely understand the individual
known as "Cath", and why she is so critical of posts on the
highly theoretical grounds of "charter violation".

Is not this post "Authorities brace for more wild weather" of
potential interest to both groups?

After all, as a long time resident in "Oz" I only issue
occasional warnings.

As have said in earlier posts, Australia is a very old and flat
country from a geological point of view.

Have warned against "camping" in gullies or dry stream beds to
"get away from the wind".

Not even a good idea even in the Western USA, as those
watercourses were formed my water.

There, though, if a storm brews up, you have a chance to get to
higher ground if you notice it.

Geologically, though, Australia is a much more ancient country,
and is pretty "flat".

Streams, creeks, and rivers may drain from a huge area compared
to the USA. In other words, you could choose to "camp" in a
gully, and the first warning you might have of a thunderstorm
40 miles "upstream" is a 2 metres [a bit over 6 feet] wall of
water.

As a "Yank" have lived most of my life here, traveled around a
lot, and I really do know a lot about the potential hazards.

Not many, compared to the USA, but still, IMHO, worth
considering.

Australia is the world's largest "island" or one of the smaller
continents.

Nevertheless, it is almost as big as the continental U.S., and a
lot closer to the equator.

Potential migrants from the northern US might consider the state
of Tasmania in Australia. The "apple isle". Actually gets cold
there.

Want a climate roughly equivalent to San Francisco, then migrate
to Sydney.

Want to be closer to the equator other than "Central America",
well south of Mexico? Then go to Darwin, N.T.

In passing, New Zealand is a long way from Australia,
geologicalicaly active, and generally colder.

On the other hand, is on the "Pacific Ring of Fire", so if
readers go there, they can view hot springs, volcanoes,
and experience earthquakes.

...... On the other hand, they could consider marrying someone
like "Cath" who should be able to provide as much "uncertainty
and excitement"

Somewhat of a pity that we don't seem to get any posts from her
"husband " or "partner", although this is understandable.

Perhaps He or She should be grateful that perhaps "Cath" may
confine her Any somewhat vitriolic comments to Usenet posts.

Anyway,I'm happy that people such as "Cath" are half the world
away.

For "tourists" or "immigrants" can assure you that Australia is a
pretty good place to be. Depending on your personality, probably
the best place on earth.

If you like densely populated cities, perhaps Sydney, although
not as unpleasant as many major U.S. cities, or so as I have been
told. [Some direct experience, though, such as Los Angeles,
California Smile ]

Note to "Cath": Have lived in Texas. Sadly enough, I have
probably lived in far more US States and Australian States than
you have.

Am also older than you are. Perhaps you should consider these
points before you rush to criticize my posts?

I'm probably old enough to be your father....although that is a
rather chilling thought.

If you were, doubt that I, personally, could cope with your
somewhat abrasive personality.

I won't ask how well you get along with your parents. Actually,
am not sure that I or anyone else on the group really wants to
know.

If they do get along with you, they should get an award for
tolerance!

Cheers,

FYI, you didn't post to "both groups", but only to one:

> Newsgroups: rec.travel.australia+nz,misc.,immigration.,australia+nz

Note the commas in "misc.,immigration.,australia+nz". Your News server
will interpret this as an attempt to post to the three groups "misc.",
"immigration." and "australia+nz". Since these groups do not exist (and
are illegal anyway), your article is only posted to
rec.travel.australia+nz.

I hope this helps.

And yes, we (TINW) *do* have the web, radio and TV, so your posting is
rather redundant, so it doesn't really matter whether it's off-topic or
not! Smile

Happy New Year.
