Hi all, I can't seem to access any campsite addresses for Darwin
itself, yet I remember camping at one last time I was in Darwin 15
years ago! Any help - I am arriving late at night and figured that if
I couldn't rouse a hostel I could go and camp up somewhere. However,
anyone know of any hostels that wouldn't mind opening up at about 2.00
in the morning!
Thanks >> Stay informed about: Camping in Darwin city |

Last time we used the Shady Glen Caravan Park, which was quite OK:

I also have the URL for the Howard Springs Caravan Park:

Do a Google search with "Caravan Park Darwin" as the criteria and search
Australian Pages only and you'll get plenty of info.

I don't think there are any within the city and suburbs, due to
problems with vagrants. >> Stay informed about: Camping in Darwin city |

Was just recently in Darwin, and the closest caravan/camping is on the
Stuart Hwy just near the showgrounds, which from memory is just out
past the airport.
We also stayed at a cheaper motel right in Mitchell street, in the
main part of town, which has an auto bookin system for afterhours,
where you used yoyur credit card as an entrance key to the rooms after
going through the book-in process.
Quite reasonable, room was $59.00/night and was called from memory
"the Valu Inn"

This is generally (not always) true of established caravan parks and camp
grounds - if the main office is closed you can usually pitch and then settle
up with the owner in the morning. It would be extremely rude on private
property, even if it consists of tens of thousands of acres. Some station
owners now forbid camping because a few bludgers left the place a mess and,
as a result, have ruined it for everyone (same goes for private station
tracks that get cut up when soft). I don't blame the owners one bit. >> Stay informed about: Camping in Darwin city |

Thats the place.... though at their advertised prices, it would still
be cheaper to stay at that motel I mentioned....$59/room/night.... and
right in the main part of the city.
That was the Valu-Inn which is in Mitchell street >> Stay informed about: Camping in Darwin city |

The OP asked to *camp*, i.e. AUD$ 25 for a powered site and 23 for an
unpowered one (for two people).

ValuE-Inn: <a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://www.valueinn.com.au/" target="_blank">http://www.valueinn.com.au/</a> To each his own, but the first
time we stayed at the Value Inn and the second time at the Shady Glen
Caravan Park. We found the Value Inn cheap in all meanings of that term. >> Stay informed about: Camping in Darwin city |

Frank,
IF you had read the last part of his post, you would have seen that he
asked if anyone knew of any hostels that would open in the early
hours.
I offered one suggestion, which when we stayed in February was clean
aqnd neat, not to mention dry.
The previous night we stayed in a better known hotel/Motel also in
Mitchell street, and apart from being slighty larger, was no better.
Have a nice day....
