Railroad Buffs, story tellers, foodies, boating enthusiasts, families
wanting to educate their kids in a fun environment will find
intriguing elements during Ontario's Heritage week activities. A
number of historical attractions, museums, historical associations and
communities will be celebrating Heritage Week and Family Day in
Toronto as will areas north of Toronto. Here are a few suggestions,

A Day of Culinary Pioneer Delights: Saturday, Feb. 23: 10 a.m. to 3
p.m.

This year, we have invited Dorothy Duncan - past executive director of
the Ontario Historical Society and respected pioneer cooking expert -
to bring us knowledge of culinary traditions through demonstration. We
will also welcome a lecture on her work on the life and times of
Simcoe County VIP, Kate Aitken. The Simcoe County Museum will provide
an artifact display, and we will enjoy a cookbook sale and an old-
fashioned baking contest. (For contest details, please call Jill Hynes
at 705-739-6220.)
Georgian College Dining Room, One Georgian Drive, Barrie. Lunch will
be provided. Tickets are available by sending $30 to Simcoe County
Historical Association, PO Box 144, Barrie, ON L4M 4S9. Tickets will
be sent by mail for orders received before February 11. After that
date, you can pick them up at the door.

The Rydal Bank Church, Sharing The Stories

Tuesday, February 19 to Friday, February 22
Displays will be set up to celebrate 100 years of The Rydal Bank
Church, owned by the Rydal Bank Historical Society and now designated
as a heritage site and listed on the Canadian Historic Sites web page
at www.historicplaces.ca. During the week, individuals will be invited
to share their memories of events held at the church and assist with
the production of the church history to be published in 2008.
This event is sponsored jointly by The Rydal Bank Historical Society
and The Bruce Mines and Plummer Additional Union Public Library.
