| Hi,
With so many boats ranging from new to older, I'm wondering where the
Carnival Fascination fits in the scale with the other Carnival boats.
Is it one of the nicer ones, or one of the older ones?

Fascination came out in 1994 and at about 70,000 tons is significantly
smaller than the more recent Carnival ships e.g. last year's Carnival
Freedom is 110,000 tons. She is not the oldest ship in the fleet but
is one of the older ones. Carnival is sending all of their 70,000 ton
ships in for an extensive refit. I am not sure whether Fascination
has gone yet. Of course, the reason why Carnival is investing all
this new money in those ships is that they have been very popular over
the years. >> Stay informed about: Carnival Fascination |

It's one of the oldest. And a rather dated design compared to the newer
ships.

It's older but it's agreat get away. Terrific service and a lovely atrium
for an older vessel. She will be leaving in the near future.

I read recently (last week) that the Celebration will be leaving
Jacksonville, FL in the Spring, to be replaced by the Fascination around
October 2008 ...

The entire Fantasy class is due major, major renovation over the next
three or four years. Each ship is scheduled for a 4 week drydock with
significant changes. Carnival, I think, has decided that it can
better spend half a billion dollars updating an entire class of ships
than buying one new one. OTOH, they are also spending that half on
another ship.

My wife Deborah and I were on Carnival's Fascination some years ago for a
Southern Caribbean cruise. As already mentioned a number of times in this
thread, yes, the Fascination is certainly not the newest ship in the fleet
anymore. Yet, my wife and I would not hesitate one bit to sail on her once
again. This is not so much for old-time sake, but the ship is fine for what
it is. No, it is not in the new mega-ship category, but at least to us,
newer and bigger is not always better. The 'feel' and 'look' of the ship,
even if a bit 'Vegas' gaudy looking by some standards, is acceptable to us.
However, we also picked the "Pride of Aloha' for our Hawaii cruise for the
same reasons, over the other available choice, and have not regretted it one
bit.
At least for us, there was plenty of food, shows, activities and
entertainment on the Fascination. I don't believe that has changed. Of
course, for those that always need this one-upmanship in reference to a
cruise, ship, itinerary, other passengers... that playing field may never be
satisfied. My suggestion is... happing sailing on the Fascination.
