Archived from groups: rec>travel>budget>backpack (more info?)

I will be backpacking from Vietnam to Cambodia to Laos to Thailand.
It will be my first time in Asia. I have 3 and a half months and
$2000 USD to go travelling with after covering the cost of airtickets
from North America and back again.

I am debating on whether to go to China as well, for around 2 weeks.
Is this possible, given my budget and alloted time, or would it be
wiser to hold off on China?

Thanks

We spent in China 3 weeks this june/july.
Canton-Yangshuo-Kunming-Dali-Lijiang-Zhongdian-Canton.
We took always the cheapest but supportable hotels (double rooms), eating
anywhere (chinese or western food), buying A LOT of gifts for family,
books etc. Spent 22$/person/day all included - food, accomodation, local
transportation (taxis, buses, trains).

3 weeks it was JUST OK for this part of China.
