Post subject: Going to Church In Las Vegas. Tropicana exits on E. Reno near Most
Archived from groups: alt>vacation>las-vegas (more info?)

Hi,

Wife and I are Catholic and would like to go to Mass at the Shrine
of the Most Holy Redeemer.
We're staying at NYNY and wonder if it is possible to walk to the
MGM then to the Trop and go through the casino to a door across the
street from the chruch(never been to that end of the Trop before). Or
should we take a cab?

This would be our first Las Vegas Mass outside of the cathedral.
How do you rate each?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think there is a normal exit to the back like you
are looking for. There is the employee parking lot on the
back side but I don't think it is accessible from the
public areas.

You can cross over to the Trop like you have planned, just
don't go inside. Take the sidewalk along the Strip going
south. A better route might be to cross over to Excalibur
then over to the Trop and to the sidewalk. That will save
you a few steps back to the corner where the sidewalk starts.

It shouldn't be a bad walk, no more than a block and a half
or so from NYNY so I don't think a cab is necessary.

You can probably do that but it's a longer walk than just thru the
casino. Maybe someone here can suggest the shortest indoor route.

It would be simpler to stay outside. Take the overhead walkway via
Excalibur, and from the Trop a sidewalk goes right down the Strip to
Reno, then left to Reno/Giles, where you can use a surface crosswalk to
the church. From the Trop outside escalator to the front door of the
church is about 650 yards (0.37 mile).

This may help:

Looks like a great place to me. Heck, I may head on there tomorrow.

Why would anyone go to church in Las Vegas when there are so many at
home?

Thanks, Thomas W. I do like my pickled herring and lutifisk, but like
church, I usually only indulge at Christmas.

O God, No. But I do love holiday rosettes and my people make great
meatballs. Tamales are also a Big Dumb Swede Christmas tradition.

I don't know if you can pass through the Tropicana to get to that
church, but you can certainly walk there outdoors in a few minutes. It
is not a far walk at all from the NYNY casino.

I'll explain it to you, BOB. It's just like the smorgasbord you Swedes

get home again.

I was just messin' with ya, Shawn Hirn. There is a lot of praying
going on in casinos. Why not take any advantage you can get?

Beats me. I can't even figure out why anyone would go to church at home
when their God is supposedly everywhere, but the OP is obviously
interested in worshipping a deity, and neither your response, nor this
one will change that fact.

I'm not catholic, but couldn't you just wait until early Sunday morning and
watch it on TV from your hotel room. I think every major city has one or two
church services on the boob tube on a Sunday morning (besides King of Cars)
and walking to church might get you mugged or rolled.

Las Vegas to Reno - Ok folks, I'm going to Reno next spring for the ABC Bowling Tournament and thought I might fly into Vegas, rent a car and drive up (and back). Mapquest says it is 448 miles and 10+ hours. Seems to me you could make 450 miles (with no cities!!) in less....

Reno v. Las Vegas - I'm going to Reno next year, and would like to get opinions on Reno... I've heard it much like downtown Vegas, and since I love downtown, that might be good. What about every other aspect? I've been to cheaporeno, so I'd like to hear some first hand..

Reno v.s. Vegas - Have been to Vegas twice and love it and wonder if Reno is nice - heard scenery is beautiful. We are not avid gamblers or go to see shows etc. Just wanted a change and wonder if there is much to do in Reno. Any opinion?

Las Vegas to Reno - We're thinking about making a quick visit to Reno while on our Las Vegas vacation this summer (I have some research to do in Reno on a book I'm writing), and wondered if driving there is worth it. By worth it, I mean is the 7 or so hour trek through..

Catholic church downtown - Can someone please tell me where the Catholic church is downtown? I heard that there's one near Golden Nugget. Thanks in advance for your help.
