Post subject: Comfort Inn rip off
Archived from groups: alt>travel>canada>ontario (more info?)

Comfort Inn advertises "Stay two nights, and get one free." It's a bait
and switch rip off.
Comfort Inn advertises discounts in travel coupon books. It's a bait and
switch.

On a recent month of travels I tried to use a travel catalog Comfort Inn
discount coupon. the coupon offered a special rate of $49 in the
advertising coupon. This was a two story Comfort Inn with only six cars
in the parking areas around the motel. I was told that the discounted
rooms were already given out and overbooked. I asked if these were
special ratty rooms or what? the clerk informed me that they only
honored a few room coupons a night, and I was too late (late afternoon).
He said if I made reservations on my return trip he would get me a
discounted room. Comfort Inn advertised in the front windows with large
signs saying, "Stay two nights, stay one night free!" So I stayed
figuring I would eventually get a FREE room.
At the second Comfort Inn I learned more.....

To get a Free night at Comfort Inn, you must register as a frequent
user. After registering and receiving a number, you get points for each
time you stay. Not each night, but each TIME. A three night stay
counts as one stay.
The points I received after paying for two separate stays at different
Comfort Inns was 4000 points each stay.
Now for my FREE night's stay!!!

I stopped at a third Comfort Inn for my free room and was told I would
need to make reservations in advance through the main reservation 800
number for them to honor a FREE night. So I paid for the room, thinking
it will all add up in points like airline points. So I paid for three
nights so far.

In Santa Fe, New Mexico I tried to use my points to get a FREE night,
and learned that I needed 16000 points for a free night at the Santa Fe
Comfort Inn. The clerk told me that Santa Fe is more expensive in points
than some others, although the room dollar rate is the same as the
motels that gave me 4000 points each. He told me that rooms are more
expensive at this Comfort Inn. I complained. To give me solace, he also
explained that this Comfort Inn charges more to US Government employees
because the Government allows a higher per diem for Santa Fe than the
normal room rate.
So they screw the USA and anyone else who stays there.

I called the Corporate office and the nice young girl told me I should
have asked about "special details." the nice young girl on the phone
basically made me feel like she was an integral part of the Comfort Inn
"bait and switch" program.

Sooo....In my travels I will check Comfort Inn until I find one that
will accept my current total points for a free room. I will stay there
one night. I will never return to another Comfort Inn.

The remaining nights of travel were spent at La Quinta Inns, and I
received a better room rate, wonderful friendly service, and nicer
rooms. The La Quinta Inn at 4298 Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe, New Mexico is
one of the nicest and reasonable places around. Belgium waffles and
continental breakfast in the morning are free.
