Is anyone familiar with the U.S Divers brand "Adult Snorkeling Set"
sold at Costco for $37? Any good?

I bought it and wasn't impressed with the mask. Still a good buy for
a good snorkel and play fins.

Thank you. But, how does it compare to what you can rent on the
beaches in Tankah, Soliman Bay, Playa de Carmen etc?

I cant answer abt the Costco set...

But I will say this..... its WELL worth buying your own
set of snorkel gear and taking it with you

I didn't do that and wish I had.

Next time I definitely will buy/take my own<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

In my opinion it's better. We bought a couple of sets from Costco when I
took my daughter for a week on the Yucatan. Since we bought some better
equipment, but we still take it around with us when we have one of our kids
or other friends with it. It's not the best, but it is generally better
than the rental stuff.

in my experience the rentals are far superiod to these cheap sets [I
bought a similar one at a sporting goods store and ended up pitching the
fins, they cut my feet with use]

and after my first snorkeling excursion with crummy equipment I have
always rented -- no big fins to pack -- and much more comfortable YMMV<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

You can bring your snorkel and mask which you can get to fit you, and
rent the fins.

actually that is what I now do -- those very soft slip on one piece fins
are sooo much more comfortable than the cheaper ones with the buckle
thing -- although real pros wear that type fin with dive booties -- the
rentals are just so comfortable and it isn't very expensive to rent them
for a week. I have never had a problem with rental masks either.

I am back from the Mexican Riviera with a critique of my Costco gear.
First of all....my husband did an internet search and it DOES
regularly retail for about $80...so we got a good deal. The set has
it's own carrying bag too. One great feature is the snorkel has a
gizmo at top that moves down and doesn't allow ANY water in when you
dive down....so there is none of that whale blowing when you come back
up to the surface...it's just automatically clear and dry for your
next breath. The fins were comofortable.......they came S/M/L and
also had the buckle strap adjustment in the back.....soft rubber, not
the hard kind in old fashioned scuba fins.
All-in-all... no complaints - a GREAT set!
We were very pleased with our purchase and glad not to stand in the
very long rental lines at Xel Ha. Also, as it turns out, we were not
in an area where there was a rental stand....so we would have had to
drive and then rent for the whole week or something anyway since the
kids literally went snorkeling in different cenotes, lagoons or just
out to the coral reef at least once for many hours every day. With
five of us all together....I think we did the right thing purchasing.
All 5 sets fit in a medium suitcase.
