Sometimes Immigration lines are long, and if you have someone in front
of you without a passport or the knowledge of methods of going through
immigration (like- answer the question that is asked!) then that may
take a while. Usually only about 10 minutes or so. Don't rush, since
your luggage will eventually be arriving downstairs.
Two different areas for customs. As you look at them, head to the left
for the nothing to declare lines. Takes only minutes, or seconds if you
are at the front of the line. I find that the Jamaican customs are
more than reasonable, and if you have something to declare, that you are
leaving with people in the country, then it can take a while. A couple
of years ago a customs inspector couldn't figure out what category the
smoke alarms I had for a friend belonged in. After that, it was just a
few minutes to pay the customs and then out the door.
19 sleeps- I'm jealous. I won't be back until April, and will be
bringing in all kinds of pencils and markers and crayons and paper for
the kids in the rural schools. Try to bring some supplies for the kids-
they desperately need them- and visit a school and church there. You
will find it is one of the best parts of your trip!
