I have some clients spending a day on a cruise ship in Mo Bay. They do NOT
like tourist masses (are stuck on a cruise for a family get together). Any
ideas for a fun trip and MOST OF ALL any tax drivers you recommend?

Thanks!

Take a taxi to Doctor's Cave Beach Hotel. Have a drink and ask for Kenney.
He is the entertainment director who can set you up with anything you want.
Tell him that Cliff and Wanda told you about him. We have stayed there many
times in the past on our way around the island. Nice gentleman and a very
nice staff at the hotel. Just be specific about what you like and he will
know what you want.

Thanks Proctor,

Isn't Doctor's Beach a very busy touristy beach? I think they would like to
get into the real Jamaica, maybe the river rafting or anything else? We
really want a private driver.

I will keep Kenny in mind for me..next I pass thru MBJ on my way back to
Antigua.

Yes, it is indeed, but it's quit hassle-free, as you have to pay to get in,
which keeps the touts out.

River rafting is very touristy as well Wink

One day ist not much time, othetwise I would recomment to make a trip to
the Blue Mountains, but that's a bit far to go from MoBay. They could go to
Ocho Rios and see some of the waterfalls, or go to the nice Botanical
Gardes in Ochi (not touristy at all). There ist also a nice farm/plantation
near Ocho Rios, where you can ride through the plantation on horseback.
It's called "Prospect Plantation" IIRC. I've been there and really enjoyed
it. That's about 90 Minutes to drive from MoBay.

Yes, you'll need that indeed.

I would only stop at the hotel to meet up with Kenny. I would not go to the
beach. The Hotel is close by and you can make any recommended connection
with a driver from there depending where you decide to go. That really
depends on what you like. Stop in and talk it over first. You can fly a
quick hop to Negril or Orchi or anywhere else on the island. Otherwise to
drive would take hours each way. If you want island style fun and not
tourist stuff once again Kenny can show you around.
We have been going to JA for over 20 years and have seen many nice spots
but more than a day is always best.

Have fun

If they want to see the real Jamaica, have them take a trip up to the
Rockland Bird Sanctuary, in Anchovie. From Mo Bay it isn't far, and give
wonderful views of the bay and city. The feedings are in the early
afternoon, and the ride there is an experience. In town there are a few
restaurants where they can get REAL Jamaican food (I recommend the soup of
the day and a fish with hardo bread) and then drive through the farm areas
in the hill regions of Montpelier. Stop at a bar or two and pick up a
pattie and a Red Stripe ( or seven ) and maybe even travel over to Ferris
Cross, hang a left, and go through Whitehouse to the fishing village and
have good fish tea and fry fish and bammie.

Try heading over to Lucea and going through the Hanover museum, and getting
some fruits and stuff in the market in town. Have an ackee and lobster
pattie or a callalloo sandwich with some stew beef in it.

Once you get away from the dock, the Jamaican people are some of the best in
the world, and very friendly. Of course there are some that will ruin it
for the others ( he said, trying to head off the inevitable flame) but for
the most part they are hard working and honest and honorable. Your clients
will truly enjoy their trip if they have a chance to go to Rockland.

There is a website for cruise ship passengers. You will find
information on the cost of transportation.

In Montego Bay, I ususally take the bus to a private beach.

Great choice Dave. The birds feed out of your hand and you can see Lizards
in the trees eating banannas.
