Hopefully this won't stir up a bunch of flames. Some people on this NG
need another hobby!
On Easter Monday in Jamaica there is the Jamaican Horticultural Show in
Black River, St. Elizabeth. They have a wonderful display of orchids
and other flowers and plants, and the contest for the best of the show.
Along with this are food booths, steel drum band and marching band and
dancers and other things going on. There are the usual vendors of
plants and birds and gardening supplies and seeds.
Easter Monday in Jamaica is a big holiday, so most of the stores and all
banks will be closed. This is a great way to meet the really good
Jamaicans, the ones that aren't stalking tourists on the beach and
trying to sell them everything from ganja to motorcycle batteries.
And while in Black River, a trip up the river to see the alligators and
other life forms in that area is highly recommended. The boats usually
stop just before the low bridge that you can jump from and swim in the
river (away from the alligators). The beer is cheap and the peppered
shrimp is not to be missed.
Anyone in Jamaica during that time will do themselves a big favor to go
there and attend the show.
To avoid flames, I don't have anything to do with the show or the river
trips. I have been visiting Jamaica for over 20 years, and just wanted
to share some of the good stuff.
