Hi,

How far is Edinburgh city centre from Edinburgh airport. I am catching a
flight on Thursday night at 18.15PM and need to know what time I should
leave the city centre, via taxi, in order to be there and book in on time?

Failing that, my next flight would be a 08.40AM so, again, what time would I
need to book a taxi for. I assume both will be during rush hour but have no
idea what the traffic is like nor distance to the airport.

Thanks for any info,

John.

You are talking the evening rush hour, taxis enjoy the exclusive bus lanes
and the 7 mile journey should take no longer than 20/25 minutes

What check-in time is involved here any way? Do you have to present
yourself at a certain
time.?

Give me your carrier and destination and I'll advise accordingly.

Thanks, I am flying BMIBaby to Cardiff. Ideally, I would like to be away on
the Thursday but have an important meeting and don't want to leave too late
and miss the plane - obviously Smile - but don't want to cut the meeting too
short... so what time would I have to be stepping in the taxi either on the
Thursday evening or on the Friday morning?

Allow yourself a minimum of 1.5 hours from Central Edinburgh to
departure time.
Aiming of course to be at check-in 1 hour before flight time.

Stress to the taxi dispatcher that it's imperative the cab arrives at
your pick-up point on time.

Good luck...

I have a 0600 KLM flight on Weds and I'm 15/20 minutes from EDI, I'm
leaving at 0430 to ensure
I get there on time.

John:

I'm sure you're aware of this, but bmiBaby in line with most discount
carriers do not offer flexible tickets. If you're booked on the Thursday
evening flight and miss it for any reason, you will have to buy a new ticket
to travel again on Friday morning - that is, if there are seats available.
Check-in *deadline* and they mean *deadline* is 30 minutes before departure.
You will NOT be accepted for travel after that time even if you have hand
luggage only so bear this in mind when planning your journey to the airport.
Add Joe's 25 minutes to the 30 minute deadline and add 15 for "just in case"
(and I would!) and you get 70 minutes before departure, which would mean
leaving Edinburgh at 5:05pm.

I would apply the same margin if you're taking the 0840 flight the next
morning. Also, take advice locally about this if you can - like any other
city, if you're on the eastern or western side may make a difference (EDI
airport is 7 miles west of the centre).

Thanks both - oh dear. Either cut my meeting short on Thursday or have the
usual "Will the alarm wake me up in the morning and will the taxi arrive on
time?" angst for the Friday.

Again, thanks both for the info. I assume the taxi ride is about £20?

If the taxi fails and you're going to be anywhere near Waverley
Station or Princes Street, you can also get the bus to the airport.
Airlink 100. Buses go every few minutes and take about 25 minutes.
There's always a bus at the stop.

Bus stop location, Waverley Bridge:

Thanks for all the info - booked my bmibaby ticket today. Was surprised that
the online site said that 2 hours before departure was final booking in
time.

They (and most low cost operators) try their best to convince everyone
that you must check in the full 2 hours before departure but as long as
you are totally checked in by the deadline (30 minutes with bmibaby)
you'll be fine.

Cheers,
