Has anyone ever used Gate 1 for a European River Cruise?
They are the only ones that offer an itinerary that we are interested
in...Warsaw-Krakow land excursion combined with the MS Amadeus Royal
starting in Budapest and ending in Nuremberg and flying home from Prague.

TIA,
--Jean

Hi Jean,

My dad and stepmother cruised on the MS Amadeus Amadagio last spring.
Sounds like they did the same itinerary as what you've described, in
the opposite direction. They did not do the land excursion portion of
your tour.

Bottom line is that they were not at all impressed with Amadeus. In
fact, they were very disappointed. They're not experienced cruisers
like you, with only one other cruise besides this one under their
belts. But, overall, they felt that Amadeus provided an inferior
product. I think, in general, folks tend to regard Viking and Uniworld
as the "best" of the European river cruise companies, and had they
asked me my opinion, during their planning of the trip, I might have
been able to steer them in that direction. But, they were wowed by the
brochure and website, both very impressive and luxe in appearance.

Now, theirs is only one opinion, of course. I'd definitely look to see
if you can find any other reviews of Amadeus on line. Good luck!

Lee

I have just booked my first river cruise but sorry, it was not with your
line. I did a lot of research before booking and found a critic site
that may be helpful. In all the reviews, I've never seen one that had a
really bad experience on any line.

After 16 ocean cruises, I am looking forward to my cruise with Uniworld.
I wish there were more discussions about river cruising on this board.

Have fun! Travlr

Thanks for the info, Lee.
I'm sorry that your parents did not enjoy their river cruise...I wonder if
it is the ship we are considering?
There are a several Amadeus ships...the one we are looking at is the Amadeus
Royal
http://rivers.affordabletours.com/Intrav/Amadeus_Royal/#

Since she is fairly new and first cruised in 2005, her description sounds
very nice both here and on other sites that I have found about her, she
seems as if there is not much not to like! The itinerary is the one that
best fits the route that we want. The idea of having a week's land tour
followed by a week's river cruise is what is really appealing to us.

I guess hoping to hear from someone who actually sailed on her was too much
to expect as we don't hear too much about European river cruises here...

Thanks for your help and please let me know if it was the Amadeus Royal that
your family used.
