The UK and France will certainly recognise Kosovo. I suspect the
countries will be those with links to that area- didn't Greece have
sympathy for the Serbs?

So, so you think you could tell,
Rough Guide from the Green,
Conde Nast from Routard,
Did you complain,
About the delays upon the train,
About the food on the plane,
Or the pickpockets in Spain,

So, do ya think you can spell,
Siena or Sevile?
Budapesht or Prishtina?
Beckerovka in Praga,
Ou un petit peu fois gras,
Or maybe just gave up,
..
..
..

Oh, how I wish you were beer,
Just an amber liquid accompanied by kebab (etc...)

It comes of letting third world countries into Europe. Most of
these are like Ukraine, Egypt, Thailand, Malawi, Turkey etc.
which have penalized "defaming the honor of the nation": a
typical third world ploy (otherwise known as telling the truth).
I wonder if the Cyprus gang have such laws? Italy used also to
have such a law but I've not heard mention of it lately.

I said that already.

I've been fending people off ever since...

It doesn't.

It's part of France.

Cyprus didn't.

The Turks got nasty with them some years ago.

Malta sells holidays.

No, I doubt the US would ever be allowed in actually.

Was it AJP Taylor who said the Balkans produce more history than can
be consumed locally?

I'm no expert, but I've travelled a bit in the region and talked to
some locals, then read a bunch of books on the subject.

I think nationalist Serbs will hoot and holler and and make some noise
and even kill some people. But when it comes down to all-out military
attacks on the UN (which may as well say US), they will shrink like
the petty thugs they are. I seriously doubt this will evolve into
regional war.

If it does, the war will be stamped out quickly and Kosovo will be
fully beknighted as an honest-to-gawd independent nation by all and
sundry. After Kosovo, the Balkanization will be nearly complete.
Voivodina may move toward independence, but I don't think there's a
whole bunch of interest in it. Croatia may one day kvetch about
Dubrovnik being cut off by the Bosnian isthmus at Neum, but how else
will the powerful and impressive Bosnian navy get access to the
Adriatic? :0)

One thing I learned about the modern Balkan people: they agree that
only the idiots are warmongers and the rest of the educated normal
folks simply want to relax, go to work, have a beer and care for their
families. The nationalists are a minority, albeit a stupid and noisy
minority.

- TR
- personally, I'd like to see Wisconsin fight Michigan for possession
of the upper peninsula. Go cheeseheads!
