It is usually quite obvious from reading an AVLV regular's post just which
casino he prefers---think ElCo-Cameron, DocDice-GN, and Donna-Venetian.
But I think most of us have had SEVERAL favorite casinos over the years,
and I would like to know your individual journeys.
We started as regulars at the GN many years ago, and this relationship
lasted a long time. Then,
when we got sort of soured on downtown, we migrated to the strip and
started going to the Luxor for a year or two, after which we hung out at
NYNY for about 3-4 years, and were treated nicely. We got sick of the
crowded NOISE of NYNY, and the rooms started to get a little shabby, so
when the Venetian opened we started going there. After a couple of nice
visits to Mandalay Bay we decided that the Circus Circus mentality and
hospitality was still entrenched so we gave up there. Comps at the V
became a hassle, so we moved briefly next door to Harrah's, but within a
couple of trips to Caesars we were hooked. Then I started to lower my
bets, and Caesars got sort of snotty-buckets, so we moved to Paris, where
my level of gambling was more appropriate.
Right now we are still Paris devotees, but Venetian/Palazzo is making a
big push to get us back, and has been sending great offers we can't
refuse. I assume it is the competition from Wynn.
I'd like to give Wynn a chance, but there is no way in heck that I am
paying $400 a night just to sample their hospitality.
Casinos we have tried ONCE and never felt the urge to give a second chance
include Bellagio, Tropicana, Desert Inn (twice), Mirage, Circus Circus
(with the kids---ONCE!), and a few others.

I have always liked Downtown and when I would travel to LV alone, I would
stay at the Plaza, ELCO or 4 Queens. I have also stayed at a lot of hotels
on the strip but downtown "feels" right for me.
This past summer I stayed at the Golden Nugget and liked it a lot.... enough
that when I get the chance to go back to Vegas, I will probably stay there.
Nice, clean rooms, friendly personnel from the desk clerks to the valet
parking guys. Except for the number of kids running around the place, there
was nothing about the GN that I didn't like.
I don't get to Vegas often enough to worry about comps and my play is
limited to $15 to $25 BJ and quarter VP with a few $5 dice sessions. That
level of play would get lost out on the strip and doesn't raise any eyebrows
downtown either so that doesn't enter into my decision about where to stay.

Well, when I first went to Vegas I stayed at TI. Over the years it's
still been a special place for me, since it was the first place I ever
went to in Vegas and I loved the pirate theme. It's not too big, not
too small, the rooms were nice, service was great and the gambling was
good. Of course, it's not the same as it used to be and I don't go
there very often any more.
I'd have to say that for the last year or so that downtown has been
the place for me - especially Main Street Station. I would have never
really gone to the place before, except that during the Soiree week
the rooms were so cheap I could not resist. When I got there, the
staff was friendly and the place had a cheery feeling to it. They
have great food and killer beer that is brewed on premises. And the
rooms are nice and comfortable.
Besides that, you can walk anywhere you want to downtown. And I still
feel very safe walking downtown. Lots of sights and sounds. Good
food. Cheap drinks. Lots of people-watching. And it's close to the
Premium Outlet Malls and Makino.
What else could you ask for?

Caesars was always our (wife and myself) favorite casino since our first
visit there back in 1972. We still love the hotel, if not the casino.
Our new favorite casino is Red Rock.
Now when we visit Vegas we spend three nights at Caesars as we greatly
enjoy what the hotel and strip have to offer and then we spend some
nights at Red Rock.

Doc,
I love the Venetian because it's been host to 7 Sporgies, but I have
to say I always have difficulty when I first walk into the place. That
perfume-y smell is simply nauseating. Sure, you get used to it to the
point that you hardly notice it, but that fact frightens me even more.
When I get home, I always have some 'splainin to do because my laundry
smells like I made a stop in Pahrump. Other than that minor quibble, I
like the Venetian too.
But for some reason, my current favorite is the Golden Nugget. I can't
figure out why, but I always get a good feeling sitting in this casino
despite the horrible blackjack and the sometimes over crowded
conditions. Maybe it's the decor, but it just feels right when I'm
there. >> Stay informed about: Favorite Casino--Over Time |

As I'm staying in so many hotels, there isn't a distinct history in
terms of returning to one place again and again. In terms of value,
I've always liked Terrible's, the former Barbary Coast and the
Orleans. The El Co is a more recent favorite.
In the luxury department, I'm most fond of THEHotel, Caesars' Augustus
Tower and Bellagio. Also, there are bitter sweet memories of that
night Matt and me single-handedly closed the hotel part of the Western
fpr good.

My favorite casino used to be Vacation Village, but they suddenly went out
of business. I ;loved to spin that wheel and try to win my airfare.
Then, I fell in love with Excalibur because I was winning lots of money
everytime I came to Vegas. Won over $6000 in about the 1st 4 years of coming
to Vegas and then the winning stopped. Now, I like the Orleans, where I
still win on occasion or maybe the Silverton. Being a low roller, I don't
worry about comps and enjoy the food and shows more than gambling.

Liked the Barbary Coast from the first time I stepped foot in the
place and had a room there in the mid-80s. Small, elegant by Vegas'
older, cheesier standards, ideal location, good vibe, Big Elvis, etc.
And I'm not a fan of the Coast properties in general.

Initially (mid '90s) I was a devoted downtown person. And during that
period, I've stayed nearly everywhere ranging from The Gold Nugget to
The Gold Spike.
Now I spend much less time downtown and typically take three kinds of trips:
1.) Arrive with my wife and stay somewhere nice on the strip like
THEHotel and have a plush resort experience. This is what we did last
November.
2.) Stay at The Gold Coast and hang out at The Palms, which has become
my FAVORITE casino. This is what I've done for the last three CES's.
3.) Stay at The Riviera and go to a conference at the convention center.
In these cases The Riviera becomes an island, with an occasional swim
over to The Peppermill. I stay at The Riv a couple of times a year,
including at the end of this month.
I am about to open an office in Las Vegas. I wonder how that will affect
things? Anyone else done this?
