(this discount code may be used until December 31, 2008)
FlyClear is the “fast pass” for airport security. Clear members are pre-screened and provided with a high-tech card which allows them to access designated airport security fast lanes nationwide. Clear members pass through airport security faster and with less hassle.
Although FlyClear is very pricey at a first year price of $100 plus the TSA vetting fee of $28 for a total charge of $128, you get extra months of membership for free by using a discount code (refer-a-friend).
How to Enroll in FlyClear (or “Clear”)
1. Go online to http://www.flyclear.com and create an account, fill-in your biographic and personal information, and pay your $128 first year enrollment by credit card. Be sure to use a refer-a-friend discount code (DSCAM1117409) to get an extra month free. After doing this go to step 2.
2. Go to a Clear enrollment location (listed on the website), where Clear will verify two forms of government-issued identification; capture a photograph, fingerprint images and iris images.
3. The completed application is then sent by Clear to the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) for security approval.
4. If you are not approved by TSA, you will not be charged the $128 fee, and you can just use the normal security screening at the airport.
5. If you are security approved by TSA, receive a Clear Card in the mail in approximately 2 to 3 weeks after you completed enrollment at a Clear location.
How to Use Clear at the Airport
1. The advantage that you gain is that you essentially bypass the long concentrated lines at the regular starting checkpoints of airport security, and gain quicker access to the x-ray machines.
2. The Clear lane is a designated lane at the security checkpoint where a Clear attendant will check your boarding pass, Clear card, and government-issued photo ID. You will insert your Clear card into a kiosk, which verifies the fingerprint or iris -- which takes just a few seconds.
3. Clear members still proceed through metal detectors and x-ray machines operated and regulated by the Department of Homeland Security but other parts of the process are expedited. Clear attendants actually help you with the x-ray bins and anything else you need to get ready to go through the checkpoint.
