Regarding the daily gambling average question, I just received a reply from
the GM at MSS. Yes, putting your card in the machine for 1 hour, the
morning of departure, would cause another day to be added to your trip and
thus lower your daily gambling average. Below is a portion of the answer I
received.

....Being that we calculate your play on a daily bases and your play for that
day was minimum it will bring you average down a little. Looking at your
account and the amount you play it will not effect you very much. My
recommendation is to always use your card so you get your points and scratch
cards.

Over the expected lifetime of the customer the casino has the
objective of having the customer play till extinction. In other words
he should be completely broke at the end of his life.

As might be expected the casino recommends "always use your card".
But the casino does "admit" that you are negatively impacted by minimum
play. You have to judge for yourself if the benefits (points and scratch
cards) outweigh the negative of lowering your average play.

I've told this before, but one time years ago I was looking at the
computer screen over the shoulder of my host at the GN and saw a column
that when translated to me said "Expected Lifetime Loss."

The host in essence admitted that the casino looks at each customer as
having a finite gambling life, and one way or the other, they are going to
lose you, either through death (probably the least common), migration to
another casino (probably the most frequent), or burn out (either through a
gambling addict's crashing and burning for the last time, or the
realization by the avid player (though one in control), that it becomes
futile chasing the fortune, and bet size diminishes to either nothing, or
an insignificant sum.

Nah! They want you to die with just a little something in case there is
an after-life.

One other possibility is that the avid player in control switches games
to something with a smaller house advantage.

This sort of information is another reason I keep on coming back here
to AVLV. I had no idea that this would be the case, and probably been
hurting myself for years. My wife and I like to go strolling/casino
hopping in the mornings, and will insert our cards on every stop, as
well as playing a little sometimes on Sunday morning before our plane.
Never again.

Since my main casino (Harrah's) treats play this way my wife and I only
play in the Harrah's casino in which we are staying. While we visit
other Harrah's casinos we *never* use our players' cards in them.
