Does anyone have a recommendation for the best cruises that go to the
smaller locations like the galapogos? I understand one needs a smaller
ship.
Thank you

Lindblad has, far and away, the best naturalists - and that's why you go to
the Galapagos!

Celebrity's Xpeditions to the Galapagos has gotten very good reviews.

Hi! I second the recommendation for Lindblad excursions. They are
absolutely the best in small ship travel. The best naturalists; good
accommodations and food. Lots of time on land to see the flora and fauna.
We have done the Galapagos, Alaska, The Arctic, and the Sea of Cortez with
them and consider those the best cruises ever.

Good luck, Kay C.

[Hearsay follows] My dentist went on a Galapagos cruise last year, on
one of the smaller local ships, and was not entirely pleased. He said
that the seas were much choppier than he expected, and there was
enough ship movement that he felt seasick. He said that if he were to
do it again he would choose a larger ship.

I don't recall the name of the ship (or even whether he told me). I
think the Celebrity ship is one of the larger ones on that itinerary,
if not the largest. Supposedly the problem with that ship is that the
large number of passengers makes excursions less fun. I haven't been,
alas, so I can't say.

Does anyone know what time of the year it's best to go if you want to
avoid choppy seas? Is that generally the dry season, or is dry/wet
unrelated to sea conditions?

I don't understand. You have a cruise specialty line in your sig and you
want info about the galapogos? If you're in the business, don't you have
resources? I mean it's nice that you are asking us folks on the Usenet. I
should think that you'd go to IATA or one of the other travel databases
available to professionals.

Don't regular cruise lines provide Kosher food? What is Glatt Kosher?

Hi Brian,

The OP's signature line indicates that he/she is a group leader. A
group leader is not a travel agent and would not usually have access
to any information that the public would not have. Often group
leaders research a destination in advance of putting a group together
and/or contacting a travel agent. As far as going to IATA, that would
not be helpful. IATA has nothing to do with cruises. It is an
organizations dealing with air. I am sure your sister, the travel
agent, could explain this to you better than I. <:+)

Best regards,
Ray

Hello

Galapagos is definitely a destination for small groups, the biggest
cruise sailing the islands are designed for 100 passengers and not
more than that. Groups in bigger size boats are normally divided in
groups of 10 to 20 pax; each group assigned with a personal English
Speaking Naturalist guide that will accompany them for the entire
cruise. Once all passengers have been assigned a personal guide they
take off to the islands in smaller size zodiacs, you see yachts,
sailboats, catamarans and cruise ship must keep a certain distance
from land.

The selection of the ideal cruise to take might be a bit tricky, there
are many factors to take into consideration like for instance the
islands they would prefer to visit (each island has a different
ecosystem and wildlife), the length of the cruise (4night /5day and
7night /8day are the most popular choices) and of course budget. It
might seem like a fair number of decisions to be taken but believe me,
this is one of the most beautiful and breathtaking places on earth...I
highly recommend it to anyone.

If you would like me to help you with information, coordination and
even search the market for the best possible deals, let me know, I
have worked this particular destination for the last 12 years and I
will be happy to help.
