HELP! DAY TRIP INFORMATION NEEDED!

Post subject: HELP! DAY TRIP INFORMATION NEEDED!

Hi all,
I am going to Puerto Rico in august. I LOVE going on day trips and
want some advice. Please keep in mind I want to keep prices as
inexpensive as possible.

1. First, I know there are day trips to El Yunque Rainforest and to
snorkel. What is the cheapest way to do these? How much do tours
cost with transportation from my hotel (the Caribe Hilton)? Are there
lots of tour guides looking to book cheap trips when I get there? Is
there public busses to get there myself?

2. I understand there is a ferry from Fajardo to Culebra. And also a
ferry from Culebra to St. Thomas. Anyone know how frequently these
run and how much they are? What is the cheapest way to get there?

3. Does anyone recommend renting a car? It will just be me and one
other person going.

Any advice on day trips and keep costs down would be much appreciated!

I did this via car, so I don't know very well. But the trip is worth it.
Do it when the Cruise Ships are not doing it.

The St. Thomas one is weekly.

We rented a car in Puerto Rico and were fine outside of San Juan. San Juan
is among the most challenging urban driving you will experience outside of
Rome.

I rented an A sized car from Charlies car for two days. It was not
expensive. One day I went to El Yunque. And the other day I went in the
other direction to Aricebo and the caves.

I took a day trip to St. Thomas, and then a taxi to the St. John ferry and
spent the day there. The travel agencies in Isle Verda advertise
inexpensive same day return flights. This was some years ago, but as I
recall it was $99.
