From Holland to Ayvalik via Izmir? Or via Lesvos, Geece?

Hello all,
I intend to visit my Turkish family (Dutch brother and his Turkish
wife and their son) who will stay in Ayvalik during their summer
vacation.
Can some of you advise me about the best way to get there (I, Dutch
woman, 48 years).
Flying to Izmir means I'll have to travel another 150 km from their to
Ayvalik (and I will go alone, on my own). Flying to Lesvos (Greek
island just in front of the coast of Ayvalik) means I'll have to cross
the Aegean Sea (very short trip, so to see). Looks shorter and less
trouble. But I heard relationships between Greece and Turkey WERE
unpleasant. What would you advise me to do?
Any personal experienceces with travelling there (women on their own).
Any advice would be welcomed!
