Post subject: Honeymoon in August suggestions??
Archived from groups: rec>travel>resorts>all-inclusive (more info?)

My fiance and I are getting married in early August and want to spend a
week immediately after in an all-inclusive resort. We are departing
from Toronto, Canada. Since our budget is limited most of the resorts
that come up when I search online are in Cuba, Dominican Republic,
Mexico or Aruba.

In August are these places too hot? In hurricane or rain season? etc.

Any information or suggestions on where to go are appreciated.

Thanks
Matt

For a honeymoon? Well, that's really easy. Mexico can be very
inconsistent. Cuba and DR has lousy food and so so accommodations. To
avoid disappointment and to receive good quality food, Aruba all the way.
I can't say which resort because I haven't been but I have heard and read
people raving about the quality and service in Aruba, Jamaica. As far as
hurricanes go, the desert island actually receives very little rainfall.
I would go with Aruba if I were you.

Dominican Republic - Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, Iberostar
Bavaro/Dominicana/Punta Cana, Riu hotels. If you would like to look around -
Mexico - half of distance between Cancun and Playacar - Iberostar Paraiso
del Mar, or next door Iberostar; Riu hotels.

Nada on the Riu Hotels. Been there. The Riu Palace is the nicest and
best of the bunch when it comes to the Riu chain in Mexico. However, the
beds are very hard in Playa Del Carmen. You absolutely have no idea how
hard. The gym's equipment is very dated and many machines don't work or
work right. The pools and jacuzzi are NOT heated, there are service
standards issues. Again, this is Mexico and since it is, anything goes.
Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-Mexico or Cancun. but everyone really
needs to know what they are getting into and what to expect. Don't expect
much in Mexico and spend much money for accomodations if you choose
Mexico....that's the bottom line.
