Mind you reporting a worker seems to be a bit harsh, still

If I did that the Asian takeaway places would close down and I'd have to go
back to the stodgy Australian food, there would be no fruit available (no
fruitpickers), and the hotels and motels would never change their sheets or
clean their rooms.

I believe Amanda sends you a bill you for your board and residence at the
detention centre (oops immigration facility) which costs more than the
Penthouse suite at the Sydney Hilton, as well as your outbound airline
travel. Interesting to know how many guests of Her Majesty's Oz government
have paid their accounts of many hundreds of thousands of dollars for their
stays at the Villawood or Baxter resorts..

Very few, I'd suspect. Actually, each deportee should have
to spend an hour locked in a room with Amanda before
departure. Once the word spread it would cut the flood down
to a trickle.

Indeed. There will be a big campaign here in the UK to attract
immigrants to Oz. I was reading through the list of skills and
apparently if you are a bricklayer, plumber or hairdresser, you're in.

Tell me about it! During our February trip to WA, getting a doctor was
a snap, but a haircut? No way!

Plumbers? We didn't even *try* when our airconditioner flooded our
campervan!

Bricklayers? Don't know. Didn't need them.

I agree! Australia is now in one of the biggest boom times the country has
ever seen. There's just not enough Aussies to fill the job vacancies.

The good thing about illegals doing the work that Australians can't do is
that when the business cycle turns and Australia goes into a recession and
jobs become scarce the illegal workers will leave and go to another country
which is booming and work there. Rather than stay in Australia and take jobs
from locals, or worse - pick up the dole.

I also did a trip around Australia recently. On a couple of occassions I
needed a mechanic. The reply was always the same when I went to a workshop

"Bring it back next week can ya mate"

As you'd expect, I just did the work myself on the side of the road.
