Forgive the preamble, but without some explanation of the
circumstances, my request would appear very strange.
For the past three weeks we have been trying to find out which
hotel in Istanbul, Insight uses on their “Wonders of Turkey” tour.
We need the address of that hotel to have some tickets (which will
be purchased on our behalf after we commence our world trip)
delivered to that hotel to await our arrival there.

Insight's brochure says it is the Crowne Plaza Old City. There
would seem to be no hotel with that name.
Our Travel Agent then requested the address from Insight's
Australian representatives and was given an address that was not
even the address of any hotel, let alone the one Insight uses.
After I established this fact, an embarrassed Travel Agent
referred the inquiry to Insight's London Office. After being
pressed on several occasions for an answer they finally admitted
that they did not know and said they were waiting for a response
from their Istanbul office.

Three weeks after making the original request and with our
Australian departure date fast approaching, we still have no answer.

Is there anyone who has recently done this tour who would tell us
what hotel they used in Istanbul?
Or is there anyone with connections to Insight who could get the
information from Insight's records?

Insight, like most tour groups, will switch hotels
frequently to get the best rates.

But surely they know where they are sending their customers.
In any case that would not explain why their 2008 brochure
specified a hotel that does not exist.

The Crowne Plaza in Istanbul seems to have a change of name / owner.
See http://english.istanbul.com/Guide/GuideDetails.aspx?Id=1079
It is no longer owned by InterContinental hotels.

Whether Insight will actually accommodate you there is another matter. As
other posters have mentioned, tour operators frequently change hotels at the
last minute, depending on rates. Why not have your tickets sent to a "de
facto" address in Istanbul. I would suggest Poste Restante. See
http://www.fuarx.com/ist1.html

Gerry

Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like a solution to me.
I thought about asking the Australian Consulate if I could use
their address but almost immediately rejected that.

In any case have a nice time, we found Insight to be
very good on the one tour we had with them in Spain,
Morocco and Portugal. Good hotels and guides.
