Hi all,
My daughter is going to Ischia for a week in the summer. I
know nothing about this place.
Has anyone been here or can give some info?
Much appreciated

Hello Brian,
Ischia is the biggest island of the "Gulf of Naples". Less famous than
Capri, is usually a quiet place to stay, frequented by people (mostly from
Germany) that go there to visit the spas (and to taste some good
mediterranean food . The island has a vulcanic origin, since it's an
extension to the sea of the "Campi Flegrei" ("Burning Fields") area...the
place where I live On summer it's by far more crowded because there are
some of the most popular beaches (some have hot water during the whole year,
due to the nature of the island) in the area, but at night the crowd goes
back to Naples
There are many hotels and rooms to rent, since Ischia is quite a
tourist-oriented place.
Feel free to ask me if you need more infos.
ciao! >> Stay informed about: Ischia |

Thanks very much Mario.
I think my daughter (and two nieces) will be happy that the beaches are
nice!
Is there much in the way of night life - I know they're not too worried
about clubs etc, but the occasional nice
bar/restaurant would be appreciated.
Thanks again

The most famous beach of Ischia is "Maronti", very nice. It's in the
south-western side of the island. Also appreciated are "Citara" and
"Sant'Angelo". Instead, I didn't like the beach at "Casamicciola", where I
went just one time. Here is a web site that may give you more infos (there's
also an english version :

Ischia has many bars-pubs-restaurants-pizzerie and clubs as well, where it's
possible to dance or just listen music (I have never been in one of these
clubs, since I love more the natural beauty of a night walk along the sea

I went to Ischia last year (I'm from Australia, FYI). It was proabably
one of the most enjoyable places I visited in Italy. It takes less
than an hour to get there by ferry from Napoli. There are plenty of
nice pizza places, and (in my opinion!) boasts the best gelato in
Italia
If they want to stay in a hostel, there is a clean HI hostel somewhere
on the island. It is about a 15 min bus ride from the port. Tell them
to check out the hot springs while they're there - some are situated
on a spectacular cliff face with boats dotting the skyline in the bay.
Beautiful.
Oh, and there are a lot of nice bars around the place. As you can
probably gather, I quite liked Ischia... >> Stay informed about: Ischia |
