My fiance and I plan to move to STX in September, but need some help
planning a wedding from the states... our wedding will be 1/1/2007 and
we're expecting 75 guests. We're wondering what places would be best
for us and our guests. Any help would be most appreciated!!

Guest Lodging:
We're thinking Hotel on the Caye... so our guests don't have to rent
cars (and we'll bus them to group activities). We like the spot, but
haven't seen the rooms... what type of hotel would they be comproble
to?

Wedding:
We're hoping to get married at a Catholic Church on island. It seems
as though some of the priests don't want to commit to that day. St.
Joseph's might be able to marry us, does anyone know that church?

Reception:
Right now we've looked at the Chenay Bay Beach Resort and the Mahogany
Room at the Carambola. I've been to the Carambola, but never that
room... and never to the Chenay Bay Beach Resort. Any suggestions?

Thank you!!!

We were there last summer.

There is a small private ferry, it will take several trips to get 75
people to the mainland or back to the hotel. On the days it rained, it
would have been great to have an awning to stand under while waiting for
it. Getting luggage on and off the ferry should be considered as well -
especially if your guests arrive all at once. Older guests might need
extra assistance with the entire process.

The hotel really needed refurbishing, but staff was pleasant and made an
effort to please. I'd say they would be comparable to an older
chain-type motel that needed updating. Pool is gated, you need a key to
get into the area. The beach is nice for swimming/snorkeling and we
noted locals coming over with their children on the ferry to enjoy it.

Restaurant opened too late and closed too early for our tastes, but it
was easy to get to town to eat. We rented a car for a couple of days but
had to hunt around town for a spot to park it in every night.

We looked at Carambola, it has a very nice tropical/romantic atmosphere
to it. But, like you, don't know the Mahogany Room and didn't visit
Chenay Bay.
