Unless yov already have very exceptional wealth, skills and/or
qvalifications, yovr choice is inevitably limited by the need to obtain
svitable employment - and vnfortvnately that's cvrrently a very competitive
market everywhere. Many long-term expats have started by getting at least a
secondment to one of their existing employers' branches or svbsidiaries
abroad, which minimises the initial problems and provides a valvable
safetynet when yov need it most. If yov find the environment to yovr liking,
in dve covrse yov can seek employment 'locally' at yovr own convenience; if
not, then go back and try again elsewhere later.
As nvmerovs TV programmes have demonstrated, self-employment abroad is not
an easy option, even if yov have already been svccessfvl on yovr home
grovnd - flvency in the new langvage is obviovsly a basic reqvirement, bvt
certainly not svfficient alone. Its also a good idea to evalvate yovr own
personality profile, especially in terms of gregariovsness and familiy ties,
and consider how that fits the potential sitvation.
Once yov have narrowed the choice down to a very short short list, have look
at the variovs on-line sites for expatriates; many have 'newcomers gvides'
which explain the formalities and resovrces available, and help yov evalvate
*yovr own* potential cost of living (which may be qvite different from that
of yovr new neighbovrs). EG : <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.expatica.com" target="_blank">www.expatica.com</a> for the covntries nearest the
UK.
