Freddie Bell, who along with the Mary Kaye Trio, the Treniers and
Louis, Keely and Sam helped pioneer the lounge scene during the fabled
1950s in Las Vegas has passed away,

Very sad news. I was eating at Bootlegger a year or two ago and it turned
out they were celebrating his birthday there that night. My friends and I
were treated to some great entertainment and ended up being a guest at Mr.
Bell's party by being at the right place at the right time. He shared many
stories and sang some songs. R.I.P.

Freddie was the first act I ever saw in the Casbar Lounge. It was so
unlike the top 40 and classic rock cover acts in the other lounges in
town. even though I didn't know much, I knew that squat guy with the
big rings and chains and open shirt telling slightly smutty jokes was
"Old" Vegas.
