| How hard is it to sneak mini bottles on the airlines these day's, I
use to do it pre 9-11. I hate paying for overpriced drinks on a long
flight to Vegas.

You don't have to sneak anything on. I always bring my own. If I'm in a Skyy
vodka mood (which is always), a 20oz sprite container in my carryon with no
sprite in it works. If I'm bringing Canadian Whiskey, any cola container
with just a touch of cola left in to darken the color. Then on the plane I
buy soda for my mix. Never had a problem in dozens of flights. I'll be doing
it this Sunday on my way to Vegas.

Agreed with Mike's reply.
It's illegal to "consume", not to "carry", so it's easy to get past security
because you aren't doing anything wrong. When the flight attendant drops
off your soda, just wait till she's passed before you pull out your mini and
she won't see you.
For the record, I am not recommending you do anything illegal.
Tim
P.S., bring a bottle of 151 and a lighter in your carry on and expect a
frown from security.

I don't think they have a law against bringing your own booze into the
airplane and consuming it, but they certainly have their own rules.
And if the flight attendant catches you with your own little bottles,
it could prove quite embarrassing. (But then what are they going to
do? Kick you off the flight?)
The interesting thing is that we were checking in at Los Angeles SWA
and they had a sign indicating that it is against the rules to pack
alcohol into checked luggage. I have yet to see this anywhere else. We
asked the clerk, and she said that the alcohol could prove a fire
hazard in the hold if the bottle is broken.
SORT of makes sense, but gee.

I usually take large, factory sealed bottles of liquor onto the
plane inside my "big bag" and I've never had a problem. I like to set
up a minibar in my hotel room, especially if it happens to have a real
bar. I've never tried sneaking minis on the plane with me for a few
reasons. (1) By the time I get on the plane I've usually got a
healthy buzz from drinking at the bar next to the gate, and (2) after
the 45 minute flight to Vegas I can pick right up where I left off
fairly quickly. The previous suggestions of putting your favorite
liquor into a soda bottle with some soda for coloring is as good of an
idea as any...simple yet effective. If I wanted to go that route
though I'd use about 50/50 on the soda to liquor mix...I'd rather not
be stumbling drunk before I get to the hotel. After I drop my bags
and get comfy though, that's a different story.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Mini Bottles |

"I don't think they have a law against bringing your own booze into the

Actually it is against FAA regulations and you could be taken into custody for
the offense (like smoking, assault on a flight crew, etc). This is to allow
the flight attendants to monitor alcohol consumption and cut off people who are
intoxicated.
Frankly, if you want to drink on a plane and are too cheap to pay $5 then just
wait until you get where you are going!

I agree, but you have to admit that it is tempting for someone going
to LV on a budget. You can buy those mini-bottles of Jim Beam for
$1.50.

Sorry, but if you scoff about buying a drink that badly, you are just a
cheap SOB or should think about why you really need a drink in the first
place.
I used to business travel quite a bit, especially with Southwest, United and
Air West, and do not understand the behavior of many passengers. I get on a
plane to GO SOMEWHERE. I sit down, read a book, newspaper or magazine;
listen to music, drink a soda (or whatever non alcoholic beverage they give
me); and hope the plane takes off and lands on time. I don't give a shit
what they serve me, how big the tits are on the flight attendant, use my
cell phone or even care to talk with the other passengers.
Personally, I have not found anything fun about flying at all anymore in the
past 20 years. Seems more like taking a bus that flies these days.

I don't bring bottles, but have my water and juice in a plastic container.

Hehe...they can't exactly kick you off of the plane, but I wonder
if you could find yourself arrested and charged with some pissant
federal law violation and on your way to to the Clark County lockup
instead of your hotel. They're ready to bust anyone for the most
meager violation of federal aviation regulations nowadays. I
certainly wouldn't flaunt what I was doing in front of the crew - I'd
go out of my way to make sure I wasn't observed.

It is illegal for you to bring your own alcohol on board to consume. This is
against Federal Law. The reason is the airline (crew) cannot monitor the
amount you have consumed. They don't want 100 drunk people on the plane
because that can pose a legitimate safety risk. That being said, if you
aren't obvious about it you can mix your own. I used to work for an airline
and I was always pretty cool about it if I saw someone doing it. I wouldn't
embarrass them or anything and would only say something if they started to
act like an ass. At my airline we were never allowed to take anything away
from a passenger. Just were supposed to tell them to put it away. 99% of the
time you'll get away with it. Just do it when the flight attendants are all
in the galley. Or get a plastic to go cup at the snack bar and mix a big one
before you board. With a lid and a straw they won't know what you have. An
empty one works well for guys who want to dip on the plane. And of course I
am not recommending that you do this. BTW I'm new to the board and I love
Vegas. I'm going back in June and I really like all the great info I've
picked up from everyone. It's nice to be able to "spend time" with people
who are as crazy about LV as I am.

I was on a flight that made a detour to a closer airport for someone who
was smoking in the Lavatory and then became beligerent to be taken into
custody. This happened a few years back.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Mini Bottles |
