Does anyone know when the Las Vegas strip Monorail will begin
operation? I will not have a car, so it will be much more convenient to
visit Las Vegas when it is running.

Thank you

The opening date will probably be announced on the official monorail web
site as soon as a firm decision is made about that. Feel free to use
http://www.google.com in order to find the monorail's web site.

An advantage of Usenet groups is that they can help folks who need
information.

Why would you tell a psoter to use Google to find the site when you could
just as easily post it for them?

It is often better to teach someone to do for themselves than to
do if for them. Knowledge should be shared at a high level, not
doled out one individual morsel at a time when they ask for
something. Once someone learns to use Google they can find out
MANY answers for themselves more quickly than posting a question
and waiting (sometimes a day or more) for an accurate reply.

a.v.l-v excels in providing personal experiences, and answers to
questions not included on official web sites. When I want to know
what restaurants are available in a property I use their website
(sometimes starting with a Google search). When I want information
about dishes, ambience, value for money, ... of a specific
restaurant, I ask in this newsgroup.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't know how to use Google, Mike.

If you were to carefully scan every original message on AVLV, I think you'd
find many, many where the same type of answer can be given. Essentially, you
are advocating "find it yourself" as an appropriate reply when someone could
track down the info without asking for it.

Sorry, but I don't share your philosophy. I'd agree that many questions
asked here could be subject to that approach, but to apply that approach
across the board would diminish the benefit of SHARING the information with
a greater number of readers, rather than just telling someone to do it as a
solo effort.

I learn not just by doing it myself, but by seeing the information and
answers that others provide in response to qeustions. It is educational and
a great time-saver.

I wouldn't. Why would someone who knows to use Google,
ask a question here (which took almost 11 hours for the
first accurate reply) when he could have found it in the
time it took to make the original post? Does this make
any sense to you???

Heavy sigh... David you left out my second paragraph where I illustrated
what kinds of questions are better suited for a.v.l-v and what kinds
of questions are better found with a Google search. I made it VERY
clear that not everything is "find it yourself". If I'm advocating
anything it is "use the most appropriate tool" or "using Google saves
time when searching for URLs". You did notice

Another Heavy sigh... Did you even bother to read my second
paragraph? In what way did I remotely imply that a Google
search should be used "across the board"? Did you leave my
second paragraph out to purposely mislead others who might
read your post and might have missed mine, or was it just an
inadvertent oversight on your part?

Using Google to find the URL for a website is "a great time-saver".
Asking for a URL here is just time wasted. The fact that your reply
was approximately 11 hours after the question proves this.

Mike, maybe YOU should go back and read the original post.

Did he or she ask for a URL? Not that I can see.

The only reason I provided it is because the initial reply suggested that
the poster use Google to find it.

The original post asked when the monorail will start running. It did not ask
for a URL. So why do you think it was more appropriate to tell the person to
use Google to find the info rather than to share what one knows about when
the monorail might start running?

Since the original poster did not seek help with a URL, it seems to me that
you are contradicting yourself in your zeal to suggest that I did not read
your entire message. Rather, it suggests that if you did read the entire
original message, you clearly misinterpreted it as asking for a URL.

Actually, you'd find about three of *this* question. I think part of it
is every two days people ask this.

To clarify the matter, I was not asking for an URL. I have been to
lvmonorail.com, and done a Google search both on the web and for news.
I was inquiring if anyone had information that I have not been able to
find regarding the opening date of the monorail.

As you can see, that was my assumption, and I thank you for validating it.

You know the old saying:

Give a man a fish and you will feed him for...no, that's not it.

Give a man some fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire,
and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

This morning I called a contact with Las Vegas Monorail to see what the
latest is.

They still have not set a specific date, but the opening has been pushed
back a bit, and they are now aiming for a date between February 1 and
February 15.

On a lighter note...

Monorail, monorail, monorail...
I hear those things are awfully loud
It glides as softly as a cloud
Is there a chance the track could bend?
Not on your life, my Hindu friend
What about us braindead slobs?
You'll be given cushy jobs
Were you sent here by the devil?
No, good sir, I'm on the level
The ring came off my pudding can
Take my pen knife, my good man
I swear it's Springfield's (Vegas's?) only choice
Throw up your hands and raise your voice!
Monorail!
