Archived from groups: rec>travel>cruises (more info?)

We are getting prepared to take the ROTS, RCI, cruise leaving on Sept. 2,
through the 18th and we were wondering if there has been much storm damage
at Montego Bay, which is one of the first ports we will be visiting.

We are so anxious to take this cruise, because of recent health problems in
our family. Our daughter, 48 years old has survived breast cancer, and then
lung cancer so far, and my husband has survived prostate cancer treatments,
and pace maker problems, so we are anxious to get aboard and just relax.

Anyway, we haven't heard of any cancellations of any of the ports we will be
visiting yet, but was concerned about Jamaica! Thanks in Advance, M.B.

Montego Bay is on the side away from the the storm with mountains to
protect it. They likely got some but not enough to worry about especially
if you are going as a cruise passenger. Kingston with its large and poor
population on the south side of the island is another matter.

Speaking of Montego Bay:

I read that vendors are down right criminal.
If they put a hat on your head, it's yours to buy right then,
if you try on jewelry, it's yours no matter what,
if you give your name and its carved on something its yours too.

Is Mo Bay that wicked?

ON many islands, and jamaica in particular, the vendors are agressive, will
crowd you, be in your face and won't take no for an answer. But if youcan
bring yourself to sound mean and say "No!" they will back off They will
hound you as long as there is hope.
