I first visited Mrat in 1994. While I was up on St. George Hill,
taking in the view, I was approached by a young woman who had
cassettes of her band, Love (?) for sale. She played me a few tunes,
and I was smitten.
I am still listening to this cassette today. There is one particular
cut I feel could be a huge hit in the C/W market and would likely be a
crossover to general Xmas music. Can't think of the title (duh,
probably "Merry Xmas") but the lyric is:
"I want to wish you
A merry, merry Christmas
Even though you broke my heart
I'm still in love with you"
and is written in 2:4 time. It's a weeper. Guy finds love, loses love,
wants love back. Traditional formula, but it is very different.
Does anybody know if this band is still extant (I doubt it) or how I
can negotiate for the rights to promote this song? Or is anyone else
familiar with the piece of music I'm writing about? BTW, the tape also
contained "Diana" and a tasty bunch of other cuts. Mrat was always
full of good music.
Please post. TYIA. I miss Montserrat greatly. The Emerald Cafe in
Plymouth. The Christmas lights in the square at the clock tower. The
buffet dinner at Dr. Cooper's Foxes Bay home. Niggy's Restaurant.
Sarah Sweeney (and Danny and Margaret as well and The Nest). Arrow's
ManShop bustle (even though that probably still continues to this
day...). Ram's in Plymouth. Even that crazy old man outside Ram's who
stood on a cardboard box and sang carols all day to the delight of the
general public.
Now make that g-d volcano go back to sleep or better yet, become
extinct!
Best regards to all.
