You are probably correct, Andrew. Though I think far more people than we
know arrange to meet friends and relatives from across the county in
Vegas. It has a more or less central location as far as the airlines are
concerned, and unlimited fun. Now if you are talking about meeting up with
people they encountered on-line or at an affair gathered through an
internet group, yeah, this would be quite rare. Whatever, you sure sound
like you have a blast whenever you go.

Doc, it isn't as rare as it used to be and becoming more common as time goes
by.
I belong to a large group fo people who cruise together. In addition to
that, we also meet during the year at each other's homes for picnics, etc.
Nonny (on this group) hosted one of the best gatherings like this at his
home when he lived back East. Every August, a woman in Ohio has a BBQ and
people fly in from all over the country. Once, we had a group party in
Vegas and that is a long way from a cruise ship pier.
My wife belongs to a cooking newsgroup and those people get together in
various places from time to time... they call them a "Cook-In".
There were fears that the internet could make people more insular and
isolated, but more and more, I am seeing things that lead me to believe that
may not be the case.
Oh... and in that spirit... should you or anyone in this group ever find
yourself in Shreveport, LA... let me know and I'll be glad to have you over
for lunch or dinner or meet you at any of the local casinos. There is
always room at the Leppla table for internet friends and acquaintances.

Great question as I'm enjoying reading the replies. My motive is to escape!
I'm a preschool teacher and I truely love the little ones but as with most
occupations, one has to protect themselves from burn out. So Vegas calls me
at least once a year and sometimes twice. Comedy and entertainment is my
main objective and you find plenty of it even when not going to the ticketed
shows. <G> I started coming to Vegas about 7 years ago and have been there
about 10 times. One of the best trips was when I was asked to stand up for a
girlfriend in her wedding last year. She is from the UK and I'm from
Michigan, we rarely get to see each other. Everyone jokes about Vegas
weddings but it was beautiful!
Cheryl
PS,
I love reading this group about others getting a chance to 'escape'
especially when they write up a trip report.
AND it never hurts my feelings to find a good price or discount. An extra
thank-you sent to Walt and others for posting their bargains, tips and
suggestions. >> Stay informed about: Motives and Modes of Vegas vacationing |

Hey whatever floats your boat. Personally I think you are cheap, perverted
and
boring. You remind me of the unwanted relative who likes to stay with you
and eat your food, dirty up your house, complain, complain, complain and
then go home.

Oh GOD, I hope so.
Otherwise Vegas would be doomed.
Could you imagine if all customers were like Elmer? I was in Searchlight

George: I live not far from you (Tyler, TX) and have been known to
visit Captain Shreve's place on occasion. I won't impose for lunch,
but will try to contact you before my next visit. Maybe we could meet

Hell, I'd like to be able to visit soon, but it probably won't be until
summer.
Rest assured I'll write up something (be it the same old or not) when I do.
I wrote a TR last time, but it was mainly about the road trip through

Good new topic.
My original trip was planned as a pokerfest, but a friend came along and we
played VP. We're three now and sort of alternate between Strip and Downtown.
We play VP, drink as much as we can cadge, and try and do something new each
year. Even eight trips on, that's still not difficult.
Personally, I prefer Downtown for its better VP and room rates, but at least
one of my friends prefers the Strip. Unfortunately, all my children hit are
hitting their university years now and my paycheck is contracting so who
knows how many more years I'll have? They've all been good, though (2002
wasn't so hot - never stay in three hotels in a week would be my advice).
