I go for most of the reasons people have already mentioned and I have to
thank DoubledownNow for turning me on to this wonderful city some ten
years ago. Depending on what I'm doing or who I'm doing it with some
days in Vegas I feel like James Bond and other days I feel like Clark
Grizwald but every morning I wake up happy to be there.

GGC's (Great Group Cruises) are formed by the readers of another newsgroup
rec.travel.cruises In that group, we talk about cruises, ships and the
cruise industry. Back in the 90's, someone said we should all go on a
cruise together and the GGC's were born. The first one was in 1998 and the
tenth one was just last month. They have been as small as 28 people and as
large as 434 people.

Aside from the cruises, though... we have formed a community that spills
over into real life. We visit each other's homes and I believe I could
probably cross the country and never have to spend a night in a hotel if I
were to take advantage of all the offers of guest rooms.

It has become almost like an extended family.

I was in the Sahara yesterday and they had posters offering
Roseanne tickets for free, they had a telephone number &
an extention number, but I didn't think much of it. I believe
it might have been a timeshare presentation for tickets.

Been there done it, but not all the way. A couple years ago
I wrote a trip report to Sheri's Ranch. Visitors are welcome
to drink in the bar and observe the living room.

Yesterday at the Western a sharply dressed man bought in
for a hundred dollars and said he was "killing" time waiting
for a funeral. An hour later my sweetheart noticed he had a
stack of green chips and said to me, "I thought he had to go
to a funeral". I told her he is probably waiting for them to die.

Several years ago, again at the Western, I met a man who
told me he was gambling all night, because his sister-in-law
died and he was trying to win enough money for the funeral.

I live in San Diego so making a car trip up to Vegas isn't a big deal
for me. I love games of all sorts, whether they be card/mind/video/
board/table, as long as it's a game of some sort, I dig it. We can
play all sorts of card games out here in sunny Sandy Eggo, but we
can't roll dice legally and that happens to be my soft spot - placing
the six & eight and hoping for the best.

I also like being publicly inebriated.

A big draw for me is the Pinball Museum there, but since my friends
got caught shagging in their bathroom, I feel kind of embarrassed to
go back in there.

I guess I love Vegas so much because I can let it all hang out there,
and no one gives a damn. And if they do? I don't!
