NCL Corporation Announces Adjustments to Hawai'i Fleet
Company announces Pride of America's deployment through 2010 Pride of
Aloha to leave the fleet in May

Honolulu - Feb 11, 2008
NCL Corporation ("NCL") today announced the withdrawal of Pride of
Aloha from the Hawai'i market effective May 11, 2008. The ship is
being transferred to Star Cruises and will be reflagged and deployed
in Asia in the summer of 2008.

The remaining year-round ship in Hawai'i will be the larger and newer
Pride of America, introduced in 2005, a vessel specifically designed
and built for Hawai'i cruising. The company announced, and put on
sale, Pride of America's sailings through 2010 offering its popular
inter-island cruises departing every Saturday from Honolulu.

Since the announcement a year ago of Pride of Hawai'i's temporary
transfer to NCL's European deployment, renamed as Norwegian Jade, the
company has embarked on a major fleet-wide initiative called Freestyle
2.0 featuring significant product and hardware upgrades to its modern
fleet, including Pride of America. The Freestyle 2.0 program will
further enhance the on-board experience taking Freestyle Cruising to
the next level. Enhancements include a major investment in the total
dining experience; upgrading the stateroom experience; new wide
ranging on-board activities for all guests; additional recognition,
service and amenities for balcony, suite and villa guests; and the
establishment of casual action-station restaurants taking the place of
the "traditional" buffet experience. Freestyle 2.0 will be in place on
Pride of America and across NCL's fleet, now the youngest fleet in the
cruise industry, by the middle of May 2008.

"Pride of Aloha pioneered the new inter-island market but, as we move
forward with Freestyle 2.0 to take our product to the next level
across what is already the youngest fleet in the industry, we cannot
justify further investment in this ship," said Andy Stuart, NCL's
executive vice president of marketing, sales and passenger services.
"Withdrawing Pride of Aloha was an extremely difficult but necessary
commercial decision; however we see a strong future for the long-term
flagship in Hawai'i, Pride of America. In Pride of America, we have
created a commercially successful modern U.S. Flag cruise ship home
ported in Hawai'i - the first time that has ever been achieved. With
Pride of America, we are offering a high quality product, on a world
class ship sailing one of the most exciting itineraries available in
the industry.

"With today's announcement of Pride of America's itinerary through
2010, our guests and travel partners can choose a Freestyle Cruising
vacation on a big, modern ship visiting all four main islands and
featuring more time to explore ashore than any other cruise line
sailing in Hawai'i. In the longer term, as demand continues to grow
for this premium experience, we hope to bring back our other modern
purpose-built U.S.-flag ship, Pride of Hawai'i."
Guests booked on Pride of Aloha
For guests booked on Pride of Aloha from May 11, 2008 and beyond, NCL
is holding space and will offer the same cruise fare as they currently
have paid on their Pride of Aloha cruise if they would like to
transfer to the same week on Pride of America, departing one day
earlier. In addition:
-Guests will receive a $100 per person on-board credit (up to $200 per
stateroom).
-For guests who made their air and/or hotel arrangements through NCL,
NCL will protect the rates they currently have paid and cover any air
or hotel change fees.
-For guests who purchased their own air, NCL will protect up to the
first $100 per person of any increase in air costs and cover up to $75
per person in air change fees.
-For guests who made independent hotel arrangements, NCL will cover
any hotel change fees up to $25 per person.

Guests may book any other NCL cruise and receive a $100 per person
on-board credit (up to $200 per stateroom) if they rebook by March 7,
2008. In addition, NCL will cover up to $75 per person in air change
fees and up to $25 per person in hotel change fees. Guests may cancel
their cruise and receive a full refund if NCL is notified by March 7,
2008. In addition, NCL will cover up to $75 per person in air change
fees and up to $25 per person in hotel change fees. After March 7,
2008 cancellation fees will apply in accordance with NCL's
cancellation policy.

Pride of America's deployment announced through 2010
Following a 14-day scheduled dry dock in Hawai'i from April 26, 2008
to May 10, 2008, Pride of America will sail its four main island
itinerary with a change in order of ports including an overnight in
Nawiliwili, Kaua'i; an afternoon cruise of the breathtaking Napali
Coast; Hilo, Hawai'i; an evening sail by Mount K+lauea; Kona, Hawai'i;
and an overnight in Kahului, Maui.

All of the Freestyle 2.0 enhancements will be rolled out on Pride of
America during the ship's dry-dock.

Launched in 2005, Pride of America has over 660 balcony staterooms,
the broadest range of family-friendly interconnecting cabins available
at sea, a choice of nine different restaurants and 12 dining options,
multiple entertainment venues, three pools, extensive children's
facilities, an abundance of spacious public rooms, and the largest
dedicated meeting facilities at sea. All inspired by the diverse
regions of America.

Cabotage Issues
Commenting on the Pride of Aloha withdrawal, NCL's President and CEO
Colin Veitch said: "Our Hawai'i business has been extraordinarily
difficult, and although we have progressively established a stable
operation, delivering a good product in a great destination, the
overall price level in the market has been driven down, to a
significant degree, by an unprecedented expansion of capacity from
low-cost foreign flag ships based on the west coast operating domestic
Hawai'i itineraries that the Customs Service has indicated are legally
the preserve of U.S. flag ships.

"We have invested heavily in U.S. flag cruising in reliance on our
nation's cabotage laws providing a level playing field in Hawai'i. Our
remaining ship, Pride of America, is generating an encouraging profit
now, and we project a continued improvement in this one-ship operation
as the unique nature of Hawai'i, from a cabotage standpoint, is
clarified and restored. In due course, we would then expect, and hope,
to be able to grow our U.S. flag business back to two profitable ships
by reintroducing Pride of Hawai'i."

Well, that explains the lack of a schedule past April 2009. I had
wondered about that in an earlier posting.

I couldn't find any indication of whether there will be a
repositioning cruise, or of what the new name will be.

I'm sorry for the US-based crew.

Wow! Looks like I made a great (if lucky) decision sailing on
PoH last summer when the fares were dirt cheap! I assume prices
will not be nearly as cheap from now one with just ONE ship.

Given that they're transferring it to another line, the
repositioning will probably be without most of the crew, no?

We are set to cruise on the PoA on March 15, I'm glad we have booked
it before the pulling of the two other ships. Not only can you expect
prices to be higher, but of course there will be less selection, yes
it's all Hawaii, but as far as dates and fanning island or not, etc.

At least they will be leaving one ship there!

I would assume so.

One of the issues is the need for a U.S. crew, which costs more and
results in poorer service when compared to non-U.S. crews, according
to almost everyone.

So if I were NCL, that is the first thing I would do... get rid of
almost the entire U.S. crew with their high wages, and replace them
with a crew out of Asia, where the ship will be sailing once
re-flagged. Service likely will be better once the crew has been
replaced, as well as cleanliness and crew attitude.

NCL is fighting a losing battle leaving even one ship in the islands
with a U.S. crew. Re-flag the remaining ship, so that there are NO
U.S. registered ships sailing in the islands, and the 'fight' over the
new rules trying to re-interpret the rules re U.S. passenger ships
from the late 1800's will disappear, since there will be NO ships left
to protect. Then Seattle, Boston, New York, Miami, and other ports can
stop worrying about the loss of jobs if those rules are applied to ALL
cruise ships with a 'home' port in a U.S. city for cruises to the
Caribbean, New England and eastern Canada, Alaska, or the Mexican
Riviera.

Protectionism can only go so far before it costs more jobs than it is
worth. Let the third world state of much of the U.S. blossom, as the
rich get richer and the poor get poorer. After all, that's the
American way <grin>...

From Canada....

Costs more. I wouldn't don't agree that the service is poorer, just
different. You don't get the deference that you might get from an
international crew - Americans think they're your social equal, which
in most cases they are. That doesn't mean that the food gets cooked
or the bed gets made any differently.

I work for a company that gets 99.9999% of its income from American
workers (or retired workers), so it's in my best interest to do what I
can to ensure that adequately-paid American workers continue to exist.

The lowest list price for an inside cabin has gone from $899 to
$1,197, an increase of almost $600 for two people.

The question is, will they be able to get that price, given NCL's bad
reputation and older ships?

Older ships? Where does that come from? Their fleet on the whole is
one of the newest out there! The Pride of America was launched in
2005! That is NOT an old ship. Look at the QE2 and QM, or the Holland
American Line ships. They have some old ships!

Me thinks Jack simply has not been on a NCL cruise lately, and has a
hate on for the line. I was on the Norwegian Star in November and
enjoyed the cruise. I will be on another NCL ship in July, and I
expect to enjoy that cruise too. I abhor dress up nights and love the
freestyle dining. Each to their own... however.

Being a Canadian, I disagree that the crew on any ship are my social
equal. They have to be my lackeys or they are not the crew <grin>. I
do NOT want a crew where they think and act as if they are my social
equal. If a U.S. crew does act that way, no wonder passengers are
disliking them and their service. We expect deference. That is part of
what we are paying for, after all.

Everyone in the world outside the U.S. knows that no one in the U.S.
is their social equal. Just ask a Frenchman! [tongue in cheek in
part...]

Please allow me to translate this into real-speak:

Commenting on the Pride of Aloha withdrawal, NCL's President and CEO Colin
Veitch said: OK, so we had good intentions. We paid off various
politicians and bought the USS United States as a jingoistic sweetener, and
purchased ourselves legislation that awarded us the only legal monopoly on
Hawaii itineraries. In spite of having NO competition, our management team
was so inept that we were unable to make a profit. Of course, we can blame
this all on the fact that some ships do a few seasonal repositioning cruises
and tried to get the screws put to them by getting our political lackeys to
expand the scope of the outdated Passenger Services Act. Now, in an act of
desperation, we are pulling the second of three ships from this market.
This decision was made by our new management team which includes people who
ran NCL into the ground back in the mid-90's. We feel the new management
team has enough experience that we are willing to let them take another
whack at the piņata that NCL has become.
--------------------------

Bottom line is that NCL has a monopoly on 7 day Hawaii cruises. That is
like being the only vendor selling ice-water in Hell... and they just
couldn't get the job done.

Sometimes it isn't a question of how the beds are made... but if they get
made at all. In reality, travel agents have been hearing complaints about
the service on the NCLA for a long time.

And I know from first hand experience that NCL's food quality has decreased.
On my last NCL cruise, we dubbed it the "Hamburger Helper" cruise. EVERY
day on the lunch buffet, there was a dish made from ground beef. Meatballs,
Salisbury Steak, meatloaf, stuffed cabbage.... you get the idea.

NCL has lost it's shine and are not the quality cruise line that I used to
be able to sell with confidence.

That's about it. NCL was sunk, took a long shot at the Hawaiian market
sinking tons of ship and operational capital into a niche, even with
Freestyle which was a leading class deployment of a badly needed
modernization in dining, brand spanking new ships with flair, they still
listed to stern.

How sad. The Dawn Miami-NYC repositioning was one of the finest cruises I
have ever experienced.
