Yes. NW tends to hold the plane a little. Also NRT security will call for
passengers on a soon departing plane to enter a "short" line as necessary.
This is so consistent that I often tell worried passengers in line behind
me to just wait a minute and they will get called out.
Transiting Narita is quick and efficient so do not worry. Just don't plan
to shop between NWA connections. If you end up with 15-20 spare minutes to
do so count yourself lucky. Fortunately NRT now allows liquids purchased
inside security to be taken on US bound flights so thats usually my main
stop to the gate.

Not true anymore on the laptop front. I have had to take mine (both) out
on the last few trips I made through.
