My wife and I signed up for this 12-day tour. We're starting out in
Christchurch, then taking the train to (and through) Arthurs Pass, and down
the west coast of the South Island. Most of our days ar booked with tours
and stuff, but we usually get the end of the days with some free time.

If anyone has been on this tour and has some advice or do's/don'ts, I would
appreciate hearing your stories.

We've never tried a Trafalgar trip before, and it's our first time to NZ
(and then onto AU).

I thought they were 16 day tours? That aside, they are better than
some tours, but given that it takes at least 8 weeks to really
experience NZ, 2 weeks means that many options are out. However, when
at Franz Josef, if the weather is not cloudy and stormy (and there is
a good chance it will be), consider the morning glacier flyover
option. If weather says no, you could try the flyover option later
from Mt Cook. Go to the park visitors centre to obtain general info as
well as directions about "Glow Worm" locations. If you are having a
cloudless evening, go to an open area away from lights to experience
the southern sky - the brightness and clarity will astound.
When in Queenstown, do take the Shotover Jet Boat option.
Unfortunately you will not have enought time for many things, but you
will have enough of a "taste" that will give ideas about what you want
to do on your next visit:)

Thank you for your insights.

Yes, our tour is longer than 12 days. It's 15 days. I made a typo.

We fully expected that we would be missing many things by doing the trip
this way, but we only had 2 - 2.5 weeks to spend in NZ and have never been
on a guided tour type of trip, and figured we would try it this time.

Our time in Franz Joseph is limited, but we definitely want to try to see
the glacier. We're seen the glacier at Jasper in Alberta (Canada), so it
isn't like we haven't been to one before.
