Post subject: Question about Nepal/Everest trip?
Archived from groups: rec>travel>budget>backpack (more info?)

Hi all, I'm new to this group. I've booked and paid for a trip to Nepal for
Oct. 15, 2005 for 3 weeks. I've been so excited, that is until the King and
the Maoist mess going on over there. From what I've read, it seems things
are getting worse, and could last a while. I know the Maoists are getting
closer to Katmandu, and cutting off supplies which doesn't look good for the
poor people who have to live through that. I wish they could settle their
differences for the sake of everyone.

All I can think about is Nepal, base camp etc. every single day! I realize
if I can't go; I can't go. There's always next year. What do you all think.
Is it likely this thing with the King will last a long time? Thanks.

Geez, I would probably peck around in a political newsgroup where you might
actually find a decent analyst or two. I'm guessing it's going to be
messier before it gets better. Bet you can find recent trip reports to base
camp and see how it is.
