Nepal travel?

I have a friend who wants to travel in Nepal but is concerned about
the unrest. While she understands that she wouldn't be in danger
herself, she also wonders if there are many impediments to traveling
freely or on her own. She doesn't want to suddenly find herself
confined to an area if there is a spike in unrest.

Has anybody traveled through Nepal lately? How was it? Any areas to
avoid?
