Archived from groups: alt>vacation>las-vegas (more info?)

I got this from the Siegel group folks. I will be hosting a page that
follows the progress of the hotel as it upgrades. This gives some
info on their schedule. Given that rooms won't be upgraded until July
or later, I won't be getting a block of rooms for the Soiree. I think
I will be staying at the El Cortez, in a Vintage Suite with my wife
(she said she would come this year). But, the new casino may host the
Soiree. I have to see if I can work out a deal on cocktails, or
arrange for drink tickets for attendees.

"Greetings from the new owners of the Gold Spike Hotel & Casino. We
are very excited to let all you CHEAPO VEGAS readers know that we have
big plans for the Gold Spike. In fact, you may not recognize it a year
from now. We are starting around March 1st with the casino floor. It
will be laid out completely different. Table games will be coming back
starting this summer. We are putting in a new restaurant in as well as
adding a pizza place on the 4th street side of the casino. A stage
will be added for live music and karaoke. We are extending out the bar
to add many more seats which will be a lot more comfortable and fun to
have drinks in. We will also be adding a sports book near the bar with
many big flat screens to enjoy.....And of course, a new ventilation
system is already in the works to keep the smoke away as much as
possible. We plan to have the entire casino floor remodeled by July
1st. Please note, we will not be shutting down at all during the
renovations. Sections of the casino we will be shut down as we work on
them.

"We will then immediately start all the room renovations as well as
the exterior. For the rooms, we will go floor by floor. We are redoing
all the hallways with new lighting, flooring and wallpaper. Each room
will have all new furniture with flat screens on the wall. All the
bathrooms will be completely demolished and redone to add more space.
We will be putting all new Air Conditioners in each room so they don't
stick out on the outside of the Hotel, which brings me to the
exterior. It will be re-painted with all new colors. The signs are
being redone with our new logo that we plan to reveal shortly. We have
many other plans that I am happy to share with you all of you very
soon. Please check back shortly for an update on how the renovations
are coming and for future plans. Thank you and I hope to see you all
at the NEW Gold Spike soon!!!"

I will have the page following the progress up this week, and
hopefully will be getting photos of the progress.

Matt

Sounds promising, like they are in earnest about improving the place,
without having delusions of grandeur like the previous owner.

A stage for live music is great if they can bring in some actual
musical acts to play, at least on the weekend if not every night. If
it ends up being just karaoke, that's not so hot, unless of course you
get a Barney Gumble on stage belching between verses of "I'm Too Sexy".

Ehh, singing at the Gold Spike is one offer even he would refuse.

I'll talk to him for my Don.

As for a stage, I don't see how they are going to fit it in there and
still have enough head room for a band or singers.

I am heading there for "lunch" today with my best friend who is a Mortgage
Lender in Los Angeles. Seems Siegel is shopping around for more money.

Thanks for sharing that, Matt. I hope the new ventilation system
means that they'll keep the sign in the cage about purifying the air
for your health. That was the best entertainment in Las Vegas, and
didn't cost $200 a seat!

I don't know if they got it when they bought the property. It was gone
in January. Maybe I will make my own and put it up in June.

Here's another story I found about the recent sale of the Gold Spike:
