I've used Bose for several years now. I wouldn't think of flying without
them.

The best thing ever for long flights.
On flights where you want to listen to entertainment they are excellent.
They fade out a lot of background engine/air noise.
For sleeping, especially in combination with ear plugs, they are
excellent too. Not so good for night flights in flat bed business
because you can't wear them comfortably when lying down.
My wife and I have had Noisebuster Extreme noise cancelling headphones
for a few years now and wouldn't be without them. When we bought them it
seemed to be Noisebuster or Bose. You needed a mortgage to buy the Bose
ones so we bought the cheapo ones. They work and are still going strong.
Now everyone seems to make them. I would love to see a review of all
the different available models.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Noise Canceling Headphones? |

I bought Sony set - I forget the model, but litle earphones, the ones you
push into your ear. These were recommended by a usually good shop in
Singapore airport.
Result: Virtually useless. When the noise cancelling feature was switched on
it seemed to raise the music volume but left the background noise the same.
I could do that myself with the volume control. A rubbish product. Also the
first bad product I have bought from Sony. Sorry, I dont know the model
number, I gave them away. I now use my traditional old enclosed earphones
again.
I have tried Bose on a plane - excellent, very effective, good sound - but
expensive and bulky.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Noise Canceling Headphones? |

I have a pair of the Sennheisers, which cost about half of what the
Bose ones cost. They work pretty well, but they're not all that
comfortable for multiple hours.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Noise Canceling Headphones? |

I have also bought those Sony earbuds like RAK's. Useless. Don't buy
it. I became frankly sceptical about the noise cancelling at all but in
the light of the previous comments I might try another brand - once
I've given mine away. >> Stay informed about: Noise Canceling Headphones? |

I fly a lot and tried two other models before "biting the bullet" this
past Christmas and buying the Bose. They are expensive ($300), but
clearly the best.
The other two were:
Targus. Good value for the price (<$50). Not quite as good as the
Bose. Folds into a very small package.
Plane Quiet. This is the worst one. It has background hiss and a bad
plug design that breaks off. The company replaced the unit, but all
they did was include an adapter that takes the strain off the plug.
Summary: piece of junk.

I have the Bose head phones and they are great. If you want to buy a good
condition 2nd pair, I could use a contribution towards upgrading to the
latest model

I was the same, until mine were stolen as I slept in an airport (I wasn't
wearing them at the time). Unfortunately I can't afford to replace them at
the moment, and I have a lot of long flights coming up this year. Argh! >> Stay informed about: Noise Canceling Headphones? |

I've had a pair of Koss' and they were okay, but I got a pair of Bose QC2's
for Christmas and they're far and away the best, IMHO.

Add me to the list of Bose convertees. I bit the bullet and bought a pair as well.
Absolutely fantastic and great sound! If you fly a lot, it's worth "biting the bullet" for them.

Thanks for all the responses. I have an order in now for the Bose,
which is what I was expecting to buy.

And if you order before 31, Jan., you get a free CD player with it.

I did and unfortunately the CD player does not play mp3. I guess that
is why Bose is giving them away.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Noise Canceling Headphones? |
