Greetings!
We are looking at traveling to Ottawa in late April 2008.
I see some posts on some good hotels, but they seem a few years old.
Any suggestions for a nice clean hotel, moderate price.
Also, we aren't into shopping but like seeing historic items. We
checked the tourism page and there seems to be a lot to do in Ottawa.
What would people suggest as the top "must see" things for a 3 day
trip?

Cheers!

We were just talking the other day about people with quintuplets, etc,
shoot even twins....

the time it would take to get ready for the simplist of things, all
the hats, boot, gloves, hats, and if it wasnt the winter, all the
sunscreen, etc.....

As far as hotels go, I'd definitely recommend the Lord Elgin Hotel,
www.lordelgin.ca My parents have always stayed there during their
annual visits to Ottawa and swear by it. I was just there this past
summer and it's a great hotel in a very central location.
Things to do: tour the Parliament buildings, sound and light show
(nightly on the Pariament grounds), the art museum, Bayward market area,
Royal Canadian Mint, Sparks Street pedestrian mall, see the Changing of
the Guard, boat tour of the Ottowa River, Gatineau Park across the river
in Quebec, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Orchestra in the arts center
on Lord Elgin street.
Hope that helps,
James Reston

It's no longer the official mint - just there for tours. I was
disappointed.

While they Mint in Ottowa no longer produces coins for circulation (a
new Mint is in Winnipeg), they still produce coins and medals for
collectors. So they are still an officail mint.

Another "must see" is the War Museum. If the weather cooperates, there
may be boat cruises on the Rideau Canal. Or walk a few miles along the
Canal to Mooney's Bay beach. You will probably be a week or two too
early for the Tulip Festival, unfortunately.
