I have tried my version of the $20 trick (just asking nicely and using
my patented story) at the Rio when I had booked a $40 room through
Expedia. The clerk made a great spectacle about the kind of ho-hum
room with a wall view which was the one people with this offer should
get, but gave me my high floor - Strip view room anyway.
I guess what I'm saying is: can't hurt to try.
