James:
Gary's suggestion to check restaurant reviewer Tom Fitzmorris' website
www.nomenu.com is the best. Tom updates it daily and it it very accurate.
He also provides reviews of every restaurant you can think of, but make sure
it's a post-Katrina review as many places have "reinvented" themselves since
the storm. He also has "top ten lists" of all sorts and recipes as well. See
them all at
www.neworleans.com and click on "FOODFEST".
In any area a visitor is likely to be, most restauarants are open. The
limiting factor seems to be not storm or flood damage, but rather the lack
of returning employees. So many places may be open, but have reduced hours
or menus. But I can tell you it's soft-shell crab season here now and they
are WONDERFUL. And the crawfish and shrimp are very good this year as well.
So come on down and send a few days with us!
