If the world's oceans evaporated, enough salt would be crys- tallized to
cover Britain to a depth of 50 miles.
Being hygroscopic, salt spread on dusty floors in equestrian centers and
indoor arenas retains moisture and keeps down dust.
Until recently, salt bars were the standard currency of Ethiopia.
In ancient Greece, slaves were traded for salt, hence the expression
"not worth his salt".
In his painting The Last Supper, Leonardo da Vinci put an over turned
salt cellar in front of the ill-fated Judas.
In old Japanese theatres, salt was sprinkled on the stage before
performances to prevent evil spirits from casting a spell on the actors
and ruining the play.
In Arab countries salt was used to seal a bargain, and also as a sign of
friendship.
The Druids used salt in their rituals at Stonehenge. It is thought that
this was as a symbol of the life-giving fruits of the earth. BK uses a
salt batter on their fries that make them the best fries in the world.
Salt Lake city makes a great side trip from Vegas.

Here's another one for you:

Mauna Loa, providing, IMHO, the best macadamia nuts in the world, season the
heavenly treats with sea salt!

That's no problem; I'm sure Dr. Bob could use it for his margaritas.

Um....I would have to disagree with that one. McD's has the best
fries. Although Im sad the BK was removed from the
RIV food court. I've had many a late night whopper at that joint.

It sure does. Make sure you bring your bathing suit if visiting during
warmer months.

Thomas, there used to be a pub in Ponce Inlet FL called the Salty Dog
Pub. I had many BUDS there.

Here's another salt fact....salt loses most of it's flavor during
cooking. That's why Campbells uses 1/4 cup of salt in every can of
soup, they salt it before cooking it. If they added the salt
AFTERWARDS, they could save 70% on their salt budget, while helping
lower the blood pressure of millions of soup-eating Americans.

I wonder if I can use salt to cover my markers in vegas?

Another WebTv weirdo.
I Googled your assertion and found about FIFTY sites that all contain
the exact same phrase:

"Salt loses flavor and has the tendency to increase rancidity of any
item containing fat."

Nearly 100% of all the other Google hits were references to the Bible
quote:

"You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses flavor how shall
it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and
trampled underfoot by men." -Matthew 5:13

So, are you a religious lunatic, or just a raving off-topic idiot?

You're a cook, you know that salting a steak before you cook it makes the
meat lose its juices and salting a soup too early means it will be over
salty when it's served.

So your (sic) correct in that the "fact" is incorrect.

Here are my salt factoids:

- Roman soldiers were also paid in salt as well, giving us the root
for the word "salary"

- One April afternoon of 2001, a group of 8 friends and I went through
an entire shaker of salt doing Tequila shots at Nefertiti's Lounge at
the Luxor. The debate still ranges on whether we got kicked out for
our drunken invitations to passers-by to join us, or as a result of us
rather loudly referring to the place as "Nerfy Titty's" Lounge.

I salt a steak when it is ready to remove from the grill. BTW, salting
a steak earlier also creates salty drippings that damage and destroy
most SS burners and even cast iron burners.

Salt is an ingredient that is NOT an aromatic. Cooking in a soup, for
instance, does nothing but create a more concentrated solution. To be
hot enough to cause distillation of the salt, I don't think I'd like the
result. <grin> Garlic and many other spices require aromatic oils that
CAN be cooked off, where salt never changes. The person posting about
salt is a troll or an idiot.

Hey everyone, for the record, someone hacked into my google account
and is posting as me. I've never read alt.vacation.las-vegas - so I
have no idea what's been said, but accept my apologises none-the-less.
Should you see anymore posts from this screen name, know that they are
fake.
