Does anybody know whether the Beaufort railway in Sabah is worth seeing
and if there is anything worth visiting between Tenom and Ranau ?

Anything worth seeing in the north corner of Sabah (Kudat, Kota Marudu,
the islands) ?

Has anybody been in the Similajau NP north of Bintulu ? How does it
compare to the Bako NP near Kuching ?

By the way, any chance to see Rafflesias blooming in July or August ?
If yes, where ?

I took the conventional Sabah Rail and had a pretty uncomfortable ride from
Tanjong Aru to Beaufort. There are trees, houses, vegetable farms, sleepy
old
rustic towns and part of the costal regions. If you want to experience how
the
sabahan travel, it is a great experience.

The last time I travelled, I had people carry live chickens on board.

Beaufort is a very sleepy town with nothing much to do or see.

It is a cheap and interesting experience.

I have not been to Kudat yet but from what I've seen in the pictures, it is
the northern most tip of Sabah and the sight is pretty breathtaking.

If you got a chance, you could pop into Sabah Air, they do provide
Helicopter
joy rides and you get to see Sabah like you never seen it before - In the
Air.

Here are some pictures taken along the Railway
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.photos.equike.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album30" target="_blank">http://www.photos.equike.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album30</a>

Tenom has the Agricultural Park which might of interest and the Rafflesia
Conservation
Park is around there too. I have not been there but you might be able to
contact them
to see if there is any bloom. You could email Sabah Tourism at their website
at
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.sabahtourism.com" target="_blank">http://www.sabahtourism.com</a> , they have been pretty helpful so far. The
rangers at
the various parks usually would report bloomings in Sabah.

The Sabah Tea Company which has some stay packages is located in Ranau.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for those photos. Agreed that there is little to nothing to see
in Beaufort, but Tenom is definitely worth an afternoon look around.
It is an easy morning ride to or from Ranau. The train between Tenom
and Beaufort is a must see if you will be in the area.

About Kudat... It is just another beach. Nothing special at all. The
views to the north are worth a look, but it is a long way to go for
only that view. For a quick beach trip, I thought the Tunku Abdul
Rahman Park just opposite from Kota Kinabalu was the best place in the
area.

If you do the north of Sabah first and plan on ending up at Poring Hot
Springs afterwards, it is an easy morning ride from Poring to Ranau to
Tenom.
