How far is it from Philipsburg to Orient Beach?

What transportation is available and how much is it?

I'd like to spend the day at the beach when the cruise ship is in port.
Anyone else done it and know the easiest/cheapest way?

About 5 minutes by car

You can hire a car or a scooter, when you enter the cruisefacilities just
leave the peer and turn right. There are the rentals. You can also take a
taxi on the cruise facilities. It will be somewhere around 15 US dollar then.
Be sure you take a taxidriver with an orange shirt. These are the official
drivers of St Maarten.

How much for a scooter for the day? Will it carry two and is it safe to
leave at the beach?

How about a car?

Thanks

We did it a couple years ago and I think it was about $35. We rode all
around the island and yes we spent some time at Orient Beach as well. Lots
of other scooters there.

A scooter is around $30,- I think. It's relatively safe to leave it at
Orient Beacht. Just park outside Waikiki beachbar, it's busy there all day.

A car will be from $60,- a day till $1500,- a day for a Porsche 928S at
Europcar Wink, but I don't think you want that car and here the same it's safe
too leave the car at Orient. With a car you can also easily tour around the
island, it will take you about 45 minutes to go around.

It will take more than 45 minutes if you want to stop and see anything, or if
you get hung up in heavy traffic as can ocurr at some times in some places.
Still a good idea, just a warning not to cut your return to the ship too close.
$60 a day for a car seems very high compared to rates at the airport, but they
may treat cruise ship people differently as they are more of a captive audience.
You can leave your car at a beach, just don't leave ANYTHING in it. If you get a
scooter, be aware that roads are narrow, hilly and crooked; not for the
inexperienced scooter driver.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
